Plot post for April 28th!

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

Events occurring currently:

• Vermini are still crawling around within the Las Vegas Echo boundary. Non-reincarnates continue to fail to notice them. As with previous encounters, Vermini flee from reincarnates, and evaporate into steam when killed.

They appear to be attracted to bodies of water and large expansions of grass.

• Detective Derrick Strutz is still investigating the Mandalay Beach homicide case. A few people have been called in for questioning, but no official suspects have been found.

• In Locke City, the criminal trials for former Police Chief Simon Edward, former Detective Jason Sherman, and former corrupt police officers began April 22nd. They will all be found guilty for various crimes relating to their abuse of power and negligence, and shipped off to jail.

With hostility in the local police sector removed, it seems like reincarnates in Locke City can breathe a little easier. However, if one recalls, there were other parties involved in the deaths and arson of Paul Ben and his family...

Events occurring in the immediate future:

• On April 30th around 7:00pm, thirty minutes before the start of “O”, an aquatic Cirque du Soleil performance held at the Bellagio, performers will find a body floating on a raft made of lobsters and crabs strung together.

The victim is 20-year-old Angeline Strauss, one of several reincarnates who flocked to Las Vegas after Bonbright made a public offer to house them, free of charge, at the Marriott. She cameoed in several Vegas shows as an angel bass guitarist or an angel pole dancer. She was shot through the heart at an unknown location and then brought to the pool for the performers to discover. Two katana were found wedged in the cavity of the wound. Tied to one of the hilts was a written message that says: Don’t waste this gift.

Of great confusion is the fact that there were performers and employees in the general area when Strauss’ body was placed in the pool. No one appears to have witnessed the event. All personnel present at the theater will be taken in for questioning, but no definitive answers will be obtained.

Suffice to say, April 30th’s showing of “O” will be cancelled. The theater will be taped off for three days. Performances will start again on May 4th.

• Something potentially familiar is about to happen with the Vermini. Between May 2nd and May 9th, characters in Las Vegas will have the opportunity to either notice an animal heavily infected by Vermini or a swarm of Vermini in their vicinity. If your character is in Las Vegas and you’re interested, please sign up under this thread by May 1st.

Sign ups are limited to 4 Vermini-infected animals and 4 Vermini swarms. Preference will be given to Las Vegas natives. We encourage threading the encounters with other Vegas-stationed characters.

• Either Vermini encounter will grant one plot Echo if the character has not yet encountered a Vermini in Las Vegas.
• As of April 28th, the alien broadcast no longer grants an Echo.
• Canon recurrences grant related Echoes!

Something I've been meaning to ask but haven't gotten around to until just now:

Is Locke law enforcement going to do anything about reincarnate hero shenanigans? Or will they allow them to just do their thing?

(This goes double for both weird crime, such as the monsters that were running around earlier this month, and regular crime, such as muggings and whatnot that might start getting interfered with.)

It depends on how the reincarnates interfere! For example, if they stop a crime in progress or catch a criminal without violence or property damage, then the police will "turn a blind eye to it", if you will. If they use violence, it'll depend on whether or not it can be generally agreed upon that the violence and degree of which was understandable.

If hero shenanigans are really violent and/or really destructive, then the police are going to step in.

Will the news of Angeline's death reach Locke by various media outlets?

It will hit national news due to the fact that: 1) a "super-powered" person (who was obvious about their powers) was murdered and 2) both homicides appear to be linked, but it won't be a huge story.

* What is the general atmosphere at the hotel, among employees, performers, and guests?
* What is the general attitude of people toward the hotel and surrounding businesses after this?
* What is local law enforcement doing?
* What are they telling nosey tourists who want to see the murder scene?

It is being declared that while the crime scene and Bellagio are under tight watch and further investigation, there's no evidence that the killer murdered Strauss or even managed to escape notice enough to spend much time at the site of the body's discovery - those there for the show were and are still (probably) safe - which is the truth, and so is the fact for would-be snoopers' benefit that there's not exactly anything to see!

Said truth is, however, contributing to unease rather than alleviating it - if the area where the body was found was that populated when the body was dumped and the one dumping it still managed to do it without a trace, well - what amount of security and watchful eyes is enough? Everyone's jumpy and suspicious, in short - but law enforcement are giving special attention and monitoring now to resorts/tourist destinations/etc. prominently near or featuring water.

He could certainly try! However, the results would likely be half-formed at best, and plain black sludge at worst - nothing living and functioning.

It's very plausible! If a player would like to assume their character has been questioned, they'd likely have been interrogated on if they knew or were aware of Strauss and any activities she might have been up to that might have singled her out beyond simply being as visible as she was, if they knew anything of the victim before her, and if either the Heliconia flower or lobsters mean anything to the reincarnates.

THE MOST GENERAL OF GENERAL QUESTIONS

How much info does the FBI ICly have on Albero's mafia at present (or any of the other mafias floating around??)? I assume it's more than what's publicly known on the network, but I don't know how much can be assumed, so! Since Ace is Criminal Investigation, I imagine this kind of thing would be most of his focus.

There are likely to be leads on people or places who might be doing business with them, lists of suspected current activity, their general modus operandi (they dabble most prominently in weapon/drug trafficking, extortion, etc.), and records of busting sub-groups or figures who have been involved with them or caught in dealings with them/on their behalf. Actual confirmed figures in the mafia itself are slippery - and as it's suspected that they've got hands throughout the criminal underground operating in Locke, even numbers are difficult to call!
