[media digest] Everyone wonders what the fox says, but how does the fox feel?
With the media starting to play a larger role, the purpose of this post is to be a digest and master post for everything that the media (newspapers, radio, TV, internet, etc) have said and will say. This post covers what gets aired/published about the numbered up until the 25th of August. This includes content created by both players and mods, regardless of if it stems from numbered and their allies, their opponents, or neutral third sources.
GUIDELINES
- You may either link to a post that you made which contained a media voice (like this) or or create small articles/opinion pieces/internet discussions/interviews/statements/etc and put them into the body of the comment, (like this).
- Please use this form:
- Please use the appropriate one of these threads (5-11, 12-18,19-25) to link/post your media voices.
- If your media voice talks about a small group of reincarnates or one reincarnate in specific, please make sure that you have their players' permission to have the media talk about them in this way.
THE GENERAL CURRENT STATE OF THE MEDIA
- Both negative and positive voices regarding the numbered can be heard. There has been a massive surge in negative opinions after the theft of Project Jump, and they now outnumber the positive/neutral voices. The talk about them having a startling amount of power that they are hiding and about reincarnate influence behind the scenes, and the questioning if they have hidden plans and motifs that are sinister in nature, have now partly turned into claims that they have sinister plans, are common criminals with superpowers, are a threat to public safety, and so on. There are also voices who talk about how Thunder Corp is acting oddly when it comes to the machine itself, but those are more on alternative channels.
- A local Locke newspaper runs a series on the reincarnates that is mostly critical opinion pieces about the numbered as a group. A local Locke radio station, Energy Up, fills its free broadcasting time with more or less fact-based pieces about the reincarnates, laced with gossip and speculations about their mental state and how dangerous they really are to the city. Fox News has run a 3-part reportage about the numbered in both cities in much the same spirit. A couple of other media outlets from both areas generally cover reincarnates and their actions or powers in a negative, sensationalistic, distrustful light, though they don't go out of their way to talk about them. But there still is an equal amount of news outlets that show them in a positive or neutral light.
- Currently, only the Energy Up radio station in Locke and no news outlet in Vegas runs pieces about specific numbered, and only about those that are high-profile in some shape or form - especially flashy, especially odd or powerful, or rich/celebrities/relatives of important people/etc. THE EXCEPTION is in both cities that there are now pieces everywhere about the numbered that were involved in the theft and in Petunia's rescue - or rather, whatever is known about them to the public. The former are overwhelmingly negative, the latter overwhelmingly positive.
- The internet is a vast place as well, and seedlings, conspiracy theorists and many others discuss the reincarnates - they might have fans or vicious haters here, self-proclaimed specialists on the numbered and so on. In general, the attitudes are fairly similar to those in the official media outlets.

Radio, 8th: "Residents tell of a joyous change at St John's on Seventh Street. The church, that had taken heavy damage during the earthquake and snake monster disaster, seems to be as good as replaced and ready to go again! We called Mildred Cane, the secretary of the church, to hear when the opening festifal will be." "St John's Episcopal Church, here Mildred Cane, what can I do for you?" "Hello Ms Cane, we've heard that you finished rebuilding your church and wanted to hear when our listeners can look forward to the opening celebration? I'm sure you'll have your wonderful pierogi yet again..." "...........what-?" "...We were wondering when the service and festivities for the reopening of the renovated St John's will be." ".....I'm sorry, this must be a misunderstanding. Sadly we are still at the point of rising funds, we're only halfway into having raised the costs of the demolition of the old building." "Oh- but neighbours seem to-" "No, I'm really sorry. I'm not sure how this has happened, we were there only a week ago to see if it is still safe and requires no emergency take-down." "Oh - well, dear listeners: Sad news, St John's won't return this soon. But their website is still online, and you can find information for their next fundraiser there, where they will of course sell their wonderful pierogi - right, Ms Cane?" "...Of course." "Thanks for the talk, and with this we start into the next hour of music that will carry you through the summer!"
Newspaper, 10th: "In an unprecedented turn of events, the damaged building of St John's on Seventh Street seems to have been demolished and replaced by a seemingly medieval chapel without the congregation's knowledge. Rev Hall has stated that as late as last week, no changes had been made to the damaged building, and nobody has stepped forward as of yet who could explain the change. [...]"

Newspaper, 15th: "[...] Some call it a miracle, some call it a temptation of the devil; various television preachers and other religious people have stepped forward to comment on the still unexplained replacement of St John's Episcopal Church on Seventh Street. Meanwhile, members of the congregation seem to have a more practical stance: Whatever the source of the change, they've started to clear out and clean the place and the secretary, Ms Cane, has stated that worship on the 17th will be held on their own grounds again, though if inside or outside can be speculated. Meanwhile, the police is investigating the case and rumours about the involvement of the specially gifted are discussed, though none from their midst have stepped forward yet to offer an explanation, either [...]"

Link/Content: Energy Up is once more doing a piece on one of the numbered.
"Joining us today are Dr. Leah Zimmerman of the Entomological Society of America, and Herman Mills of the popular blog, Extreme Cryptobugology. They're here with us today in the hopes of providing some insight on Locke City's mysterious Lord of the Bugmen," said the radio announcer. "What kind of bug is he? Where did he come from? Is there actually a kingdom of other bugmen living in Locke City's sewers? All these questions and more will be answered on today's program."
"Thank you, Jim," said Dr. Zimmerman. "Now, the Lord of the Bugmen is clearly not entirely an insect, for an insect would have six limbs, and--"
"Of course he's not just an insect! He's the freaking Lord of the Bugmen! An entirely new species! Likely not unrelated to Bigfoot!" It would seem that the blogger was a little too exciteable for a polite, rational debate. Not that he was inclined to be rational anyway. "The ultimate evolution of the humble cockroach!"
"Physically, the Lord of the Bugmen most strongly resembles some subspecies of longhorn beetle, rather than a cockroach." The scientist did not sound too happy with the blogger's interruption. "It's difficult to tell with his humanoid physiology, but he shares many carapace similarities to the longhorn beetle, most notably the impressive antennae. However, behaviorally--"
"Aha! That could explain why the Lord of the Bugmen is visiting the surface world at all--to find a mate! I mean, everyone knows that's why longhorn beetles have those big antennae that give them their names! Those antennae are designed to sense the sex pherhormones of potential mates!" The blogger seemed to be perfectly okay with this idea. "Perhaps the Bugmen Kingdom is dying out, and he's taken to the surface to find a human woman! I don't know about you, but I've certainly seen a few tabloid stories pointing in that direction!"
"Tabloids. Really." There's a sigh from the scientist. "If you'd let me finish, behaviorally speaking, the Lord of the Bugmen seems to be a bit on the combative side, which would put him more in line with many varieties of beetles. Beetles are territorial--not like the cockroach, which is very social and is not a true beetle--and the Lord of the Bugmen has, in the past, proven to react quite aggressively to invaders in his territory, such as the mysterious snakes that attacked Locke back in March."
"But what about his freaky weird powers?" the blogger asks with a laugh. "There is no beetle out there that can blast its enemies with energy like that! He might even be an alien! I mean, hey, he was spotted boarding that alien spaceship a while back! You never know--he could be phoning home! Or phoning out for intergalactic pizza to go with his shawarma and cheeseburgers! He's acting like a human, wooing human women--"
"You have no evidence that he's been wooing human women."
"But the tabloids!"
"The tabloids are not evidence!"
The rest of the program continues on in much the same fashion for the rest of the time, with the scientist and the blogger bringing up different species of bugs and their habits and physical qualities, and then relating these qualities to the Lord of the Bugmen. Owing to the content and the constant level of bickering between the two experts, the feature proves popular enough to get replayed a few times, although there is some debate as to whether or not the bickering was staged or genuine. Much to Hajime's dismay, a collection of the best soundbites from it manages to go viral on Youtube.

In Vegas:
Discovered early on the morning of August 11th in the pool of the [whatever hotel it happened in, just roll with it], it seems the string of mysterious murders plaguing Las Vegas is continuing with the death of Richard Jovan Burzek. At first glance, the death seems to be an unrelated drowning, but initial investigations show signs of struggle. Prior to his death, the last time Burzek was seen in public was at the Marriott hotel on August 6th. He also appears to have been one of the superpowered individuals involved in the rescuing of Petunia Bonbright several weeks ago. Whether the rescue and his death are connected is currently unknown.
Very little is known about Burzek, a 21 year old student. He was a Locke City native who was spending the summer between classes in Las Vegas. Further information as news about his death is discovered is yet to come.
In Locke:
The body of Richard Jovan Burzek has been recovered from a hotel pool in Las Vegas late last night. Vegas police believe that the death was actually a murder, the latest in a string of deaths that also include Angeline Strauss, another Locke City native.
Richard was a public policy major in Locke City University's honors program. His involvement with the superpowered individuals in Locke and Vegas has yet to be understood--friends state that he never exhibited any unusual abilities, but has encountered related oddities before. Those who knew him described him as a quiet, studious, and polite young man, and that his sudden decision to take a road trip to Las Vegas came as a shock to all who knew him.
Richard's father, Dobromil Burzek, was unavailable for comment.

Type of media/location if applicable: Locke City TV News, radio, newspaper, and one or two internet articles. All presumably not seen as big a deal as SUPERHEROICS AND ALIENS. But still weird.
"It appears two familiar thieves have acted once again. Last month, these two figures were seen stealing the door from the Hugh P. Thadson Gallery of Fine Art. Now, they've found a new target: the Candy Emporium.
Dressed as horror characters Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm St. and Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, they stole hundreds of dollars worth of candy. The cashier on duty explained that he was so startled by the costumed thieves, he didn't check to see if they paid the correct amount for their "purchases". They had handed the man a $20 with an extra zero written in marker. They also drew a smiley face on Andrew Jackson. The cashier was fired from his position not long after.
Oddly enough, the couple appeared again not three hours later at Marshal's Home for Orphaned Children. The facility staff reported that they believed the couple were donating the candy in preparation for their Halloween charity drive. It wasn't until they heard the news that they realized the truth. The Candy Emporium and Marshal's Home are in talks in returning the stolen goods. With Marshal's policy for not returning donations, this could be problematic.
The couple have yet to be seen again."
