I'm going to toss a gentle negative here to the idea of you doing this yourself for the simple reason that constantly being the "middle man" is likely going to be too much for one person to bear for long. Your idea is very sound in concept, and I like one of the other suggestions for the PR mod/delegated "third party" to be the one to handle ATP and other things of that nature, but I think we've all been in that situation of being stuck between two people who were fighting. All I can think of is remembering how tiring it is to constantly have friction coming at you from both sides, and how relieving it was to finally get to step away from it. I know I'd end up breaking down (and yeah, I did break down) from constantly being in that situation, and I don't want that to happen to anyone else, especially to someone with genuinely good intentions who's just trying to help out a game they love.
Maybe we can have a rotating set of volunteers taking up the mantle, though, or else a "mini mod" team doing nothing but the more "public" stuff like ads, ATP, possibly even writing OOC posts that aren't directly dealing with plot (stuff like policy changes, new rules, etc etc). Doing a rotating thing, at least with handling complaints, might be better for avoiding someone getting too involved with one side or another and losing that impartiality that's necessary for a job like this. That way even if someone does start flipping more to one side than the other, at least that way they won't be in the job for long.
