The police won't do anything one way or the other; they'll be targets for the mafia and their chance of encountering a vermedi will be higher; and what concerns the general public/the people on the street... opinions start to be divided. A good deal of people stay away from the numbered just in case or because they consider them dangers; some will simply behave like people would when a celebrity/unusual looking person is around; and some are numbered fans and will act accordingly. There's more negative than positive sentiments now, though. Students might find that they will be requested to stay home because parents have complained about the potential danger of having them around their children, working people might get fired - or not! Maybe the school/employer would demonstratively keep them. But everyone has opinions now, and many have very strong ones.
