+1 teenage douche
Hello and good evening to all, I am (trying really hard not to scare you all away with my excite) (failing miserably at that task) (reconsidering the logic behind using these parentheses in the first place) (Abilene), and I am 100% brand-spankin'-new to StE.
Well. 95% new. If you count knowing a couple people from previous games prior to this. But I digress.
The fact of the matter is that I'm all sorts of excited to be joining you here, and I'll be bringing you a fresh incarnation of Riku from Kingdom Hearts! To make a long story short, boy's a moron: he tried to exploit darkness, failed, spent a few games figuring his shit out, and now is doing pretty ok for himself.
In StE, where he's known as Dante Rantanen, he's kind of going to be a teenage douche--this incarnation hasn't ever had his arrogance bite him in the ass yet, and so is a lot more sardonic than his counterpart in later games. Due to constantly traveling with his parents when he was younger, Riku's not really that great (or even interested) in forming long-lasting friendships; he tends to make superficial connections based on what they might be able to do for him later on. He's been in Locke City for about a year and a half now, so not really new to the area, but just graduated from Locke City Academy here this past school year. Not doing anything with his life as of yet because he's just a bum coasting off his parents' money. No reason not to, right?
Riku's info post can be found here for more information(though beware, a few of the links just lead to placeholder posts atm... I'll get those changed out later for legit ones...) (guess who got everything updated!). I myself can be reached at
journeys (just let me know who you are please, aha... ha...), or through a PM here on Riku's journal! I'm about to be absent for a day or so because of Christmas (I AM THE QUEEN OF BEST TIMING), but I'm hoping to get the ball rolling here soon. I AM LOOKING FORWARD SO MUCH TO PLAYING WITH YOU ALL :)
(Also please don't let my extreme silliness scare you away, I promise I'm just a gigantic dork :>)

First off, welcome to the game! I'm Ren and I play Suzaku Kururugi (Code Geass) and Clear - now Pierce Asher (DRAMAtical Murder). One's a jerk with a white-knight complex and way less tact than he should have, other's a Mr Nice Guy who's highly gifted on the piano.
...And eventually both will have lives involving robots.
Wanted to check in with you not just to greet (c'mon, Riku's a great character), but also because Suzaku here knew the previous Riku. I'm speculating whether his features would strike as familiar, since the previous Riku bleached his hair and thus looked about the same. Suzaku knew him as a half-Japanese fellow who actually went by the name Riku, and arguably the only friend-like entity in his childhood because Suzaku was a confrontational bruiser. I say friend-like because of sheer brevity, they met again about a decade later via network.
I'm wondering whether we can exploit the resemblance for maximum confusion and possible headaches, and what your preferences are regarding this. Totally up to you, but I figured I'd run it by you because sometimes giving characters headaches is fun.
In all cases I hope you have a blast here.

I'm not so sure that this version of Riku's going to necessarily look a lot like the prior Riku (at least in the face; even with the hair resemblance, Japanese features vs Finnish features are still going to be pretty markedly different), but I would be all for having Dante and the prior Riku have like the same build/look alike from a distance or behind! Anyone who's played with me before can tell you I take all sorts of glee in making the poor boy's life more difficult ehehe.
But even if appearance-wise it might be a bit more difficult, another possibility would be that they could very well have similar voices? Same timbre and pitch? I'm not so sure how long it'll take Dante to start making video posts on the network, so we could definitely play with that too.

Voice sounds like the most logical bet in that case, especially since one might be reluctant to show their mug on the network right away. Suzaku's just arrogant enough to not care. Come at him bros. Mind if I ask whether you have AIM? Not everybody uses it, but I figure I'll check in case you do for plotting purposes.

(And responding to your other comment too, I actually did know Riku was a Finnish name! It's actually what led to him having the heritage ahahaha. Wound up changing the name because Plots, but the influence remained.)

That's awesome, with the name business. I know all sorts of random trivia but wasn't sure if it was a fabulous coincidence or not. Mind if I ask what led to choosing Dante?

(But no, I also did like the idea of some really pretentious name due to his parentage, and it fit. ...but the main reason was so that we could totally make that joke, lmao.)

When our resident Hope and I decided we'd make him and Clear bros we totally went for pretentious names. The whole thing's an in-joke, like Asher's a reference to a game series we both like and we had a good chuckle that even in this life they have very literal names. I tangent spectacularly, but that kind of stuff is totally fun and I'm looking forward to when Ame joins the party.
Suzaku won't fail to note Dante and Virgil if he hears it - he's pretty big into reading the Classics, even if utterly disenchanted by the lack of "good guy" heroes.

Names are definitely important! So it's fun to see where other people think about it and/or make jokes with their own choices. 8D
(also oh crap that means i may need to skim it or something because i'll totally admit i've never read the divine comedy, and riku definitely would have lkjfsdlkfdksjf)

Totally. Best part is those times when characters can do it ICly. Last game me and Trap (Hope's player) were in, my Ven totally did that to Hope all the time. Granted often by pure chance, but name-puns are so amusing.
Do you want the cliffnotes version of Inferno? Because I had to wade through that one for a course once. It's the kind of thing that hits you in the gut with footnotes and then you turn the page and there's even more footnotes and you wonder why are they doing this to me.

mind control vocaloidderp here too because I just remembered.Riku's actually a Finnish name, did you know that? I know he's Dante now but I got to thinking about it, and it's kind of funny.
