On backdating and metaplot-related posts

Firstly, we’d like to apologize to those who were inconvenienced by the backdated IC announcement of Proud’s death and thank you for your flexibility.

As of today, metaplot-related posts will have a backdate limit of three days after the IC date of the related plot. For example, if the plot occurred on the 1st, then players have until the end of the 4th to make an IC post related to it that is meant to occur on the same day of the plot (the 1st).

On a temporary closure of applications and reserves

In the interest of making the transition from S1 to S2 as smooth as possible, we will be closing reserves on Feb 16th and applications on Feb 23rd. Those who have put in a reserve prior to this announcement (i.e. up to and including the Roxas reserve) may still apply up until the expiration of their reserve.

On game-wide and personal HMDs

Save the Earth will be holding game-wide HMD posts. They will be every other month and optional. Anonymous comments will be enabled. We will not tolerate harassment or general asshatery.

Additionally, we will require players to set up HMD posts for their characters. The settings may be according to your preference (screened or unscreened, anon enabled or disabled, etc.), and this can be in their character journals, a catch-all, etc. - as long as you can provide an HMD post! We’ll request their inclusion in the form of a link on the next activity check.

The first HMD will be held later this month or in March in

saveyourbrain.

On fighting the alien and Wise Snake’s awakening

After some discussion, we’ve come up with three scenarios regarding the execution of the alien and Wise Snake plots. Refer to the thread here. Each scenario will have its own comment. Please vote for the scenario you’re in favor of by commenting to it. We’ll go with the majority vote.

On a breather period between Wise Snake’s defeat and Season 2

There is a suggestion in the notes of the original mod to integrate a “filler season” after the end of Season 1. Tentatively, we’re thinking it will last two weeks. Pros: a breather period between plot; cons: pushing Season 2 back.

Like the subject of the alien and Wise Snake, we’ll leave the decision to majority vote. Refer to the thread here and vote in favor of your choice.

Both polls will be open for one week. They will close on Feb 16th.

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

The alien is killed in the assault on the farmhouse. Its destruction will lead to the release of a burst of energy - that will be felt by and immediately afterward awaken Wise Snake.
+PROS: We can move into Season 2 faster; as opposed to in Scenario 2, characters injured in the farmhouse battle will not be in harm's way.
-CONS: Participation in the farmhouse battle and Wise Snake's rampage will be mutually exclusive; characters that participate in the battle against WS may be identified by non-reincarnates.

I think this scenario has the huge advantage
-that characters in the farmhouse battle will not have to worry about threading fast enough to know where their character will stand in the snake battle at the same time as
-it doesn't further delay the plot involvement of characters not involved in the farmhouse battle.

So I'm voting for this option as I think that the mutual exclusivity is actually an advantage.

The alien flees the farmhouse and escapes to Locke City, where it may be apprehended and destroyed, awakening Wise Snake then as in Scenario 1.
+PROS: We can move into Season 2 faster; unlike in Scenario 1, characters involved in the farmhouse battle will be able to be present for Wise Snake's emergence and will be able to give the rest of the network a heads-up that something is afoot.
-CONS: Characters involved in the farmhouse battle will be in the fray with no-to-minimal time to prepare or recuperate; characters that participate in the battle against WS may be identified by non-reincarnates.

I think this covers the most options I'd want (participation in both things possible) since neither of the others totally covers that (given the characters could ICly be booted out of participation in option 3 and option 1 is mutually exclusive). :|a I am a bit worried about how rushed this option seems, but it's the one that fits what I want best out of the proposed scenarios, so!

The alien is killed in the assault at the farmhouse - and energy released in its destruction will reach Wise Snake, causing it to gradually stir until it awakens one week later. Its stirring will cause underground/seismic activity that may prompt an evacuation of Locke City.
+PROS: More time is allowed for last minute/final planning (both ICly and OOCly) toward the Wise Snake battle and the Season 1 finale after the farmhouse assault; characters who partook in the farmhouse raid or other recent plots of similar nature will have time to recover; less non-reincarnates around = less chance of being identified.
-CONS: We will enter Season 2 more slowly; it is possible that by the end of the build-up period, not all characters whose players were interested in participation would ICly be present in Locke City for Wise Snake’s rampage.

Is it possible to vote for more than one possibility? Like if I absolutely don't care if it is 1 or two but don't want 3 to happen, can I vote for 1 and 2 or do I have to decide between them?

The polls are open for a week, so there's no rush to choose right now! If you can decide between the two options that would be preferred, otherwise go ahead and throw your votes in.

With the back dating rule, can we get assurance that all relevant info will be given before that time runs out to minimize retcons? With how many characters are involved in meta plot threads, they don't get finished in reasonable time, so word-of-mod is very important to know just what even happened so IC communication can even be made.

That's a good point, thank you for raising it! We'll strive to make sure it's possible for players to follow the metaplot backdate limit -- and if the rule needs to be revisited, then we'll do that.

...At the risk of having missed something obvious, wasn't there some sort of Tower/Dead District mission planned? :|a Are we skipping that/what's the deal there? Or is that in Season 2 or. I am fairly certain someone here will be able to answer the question for me and I don't know who to direct it to specifically, so.

I'll be making a post about this today, but what happened is that Zelos-mun dropped and I'm not really interested in running that whole plot by myself, so I've opted to cancel it.

When will apps/reserves reopen again after this?

Sometime after S2 has begun and we feel like we've got a good handle on how to manage it. At the moment we haven't got a specific date in mind.

a lot of people are really slow due to, mostly, jobs and school. i know jamie-mun and i won't have time to hash out an entire plot thread in three days? it seems way too short to me. it's really exclusive to people who don't boomerang tags and have time restraints for things like jobs and IRL stuff. please reconsider.

I can understand why they're doing this, because it's a good idea in general not to end up in a position where people will have to retcon things.

But as one of those slow players myself, I admit I feel kind of excluded by this rule too.

Your concern is well-understood, and we cannot say that there are no circumstances under which this may be negotiable, but to keep coordination tight, on the whole this will stand; meanwhile on the other hand, we will make a point to provide fair early notice of and, where needed, enforce forward-dating of metaplot event-related logs and posts to allow for greater room for planning and development OOCly by the date that an event ICly occurs.

All things considered, the actual Wise Snake event will probably take some considerable time. I'd be surprised if it didn't.

Very likely, I would not be surprised if it takes longer than three days and with the sheer amount of people likely to be participating against a single target, I doubt everyone can call exactly what will happen to their character until it happens.

I understand it with regards to some recent events, but how is that going to work here?

We will be forward-dating both the farmhouse attack itself by at least two weeks; the awakening of Wise Snake will also be forward-dated, the period of time by which it will be decided once the final result of the poll decides when it'll ICly occur in relation to the farmhouse assault.

Additionally the fight against Wise Snake will be divided, as it were - into something a bit more manageable than a default to a free-for-all from the get-go (for further organization within it, of course, for all who might wish or require it from there!). More details will come with the eventual plotting post for the event itself!
