+1 Magical Psychic Horse

Hi guys! This is bii, who you might already know as Granny Curry's mun! I'm back with another older lady only this time she's a horse.

Well. She's a horse now anyway. This is at minimum her third reincarnation and since the last one was as a magical psychic horse-like creature, she's stuck as a horse now. Her name used to be Sayvil and she's a Companion from Mercedes Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar books--or, as I like to call them, Magical Talking Horse Special Taskforce. They're romantic fantasy novels, the bulk of which were written in the nineties, and they are admittedly kind of cheesy and tropey and basically High Octane Teenage Wish Fulfillment, but they were part of my adolescence and I am still strangely fond.

Currently she goes by the name of Areonwen and she's Shou Chinen's horse. She's been a silent member of the numbers club since August when she drank some echo water, but since she only got back human sentience and not any way to communicate she's a thinking being, she's only been able to watch/listen to people's text VIDEO and voice posts since then. However she's about to bust out of her stall and regain her Mindspeech so That Will Change.

Nope! She's from another talking horse canon. But I hope she and Cinderella get to confuse each other for a good long time :3

No actual Herald yet, but Shou makes a surprisingly effective nephew substitute. Once I eventually echo her knowledge of what she is back, though, I might have her looking to choose some poor psychic or magically gifted Number.

God, she and not-Aqua would have been amazing together.

(Definite plans in motion include echoing back the entire lyrics and melody for "My Lady's Eyes," because I am cruel and that damn song will never die and with Treesa as a sister-in-law Savil would have had enough exposure to it.)

hahaha, awesome. I used to love those books! Personally I feel like Lackey wrote better then than she does now. |D

Mmm, I think it depends a little on the book/series/whatever, but as far as the Valdemar stuff is concerned, I personally find Black Gryphon + the Storms trilogy to be the best of it? Nothing before or since was that awesome for me. (Though I'll forever have a special place in my heart for LHM because they were my first. And I actually like the second Gryphon book a lot.)

Black Gryphon's one of my favorites! And I didn't care for the Storms books, but I still love By The Sword. And Joust.

...oh, I also really liked her trilogy with James Mallory, I feel like it was a lot broader in scope than most of her books these days. I've fallen out of the habit of reading everything she comes out with, but it really does seem like in the past few years it's more formula.

I am very fond of Joust. I haven't really read the James Mallory stuff, though. Or rather, I started it and got distracted by stuff and back it went to the library before I was done with the first book.

Man I feel like the Dragon Jousters kind of went downhill after that, though! I remember taking notes on all of Kiron's dragon riders in Alta, noting name, dragon name, colors, and personality traits/distinguishing characteristics, then... not really being surprised when they differed from book to book.

It's been a few years, for me! I do feel like that trilogy's slower going than many of her books. Harder to get into. It's more of an attempt at Epic High Fantasy with huge stakes and stuff than her usual.
