Return paths aren't a permanent thing in canon (because there it would be a dimensional rift that . . . that isn't a healthy thing for the universe there) but since this wouldn't really be a dimensional rift in the same sense, I could see the idea that it could be a more stable thing. Like perhaps opening a way back once could create a physical gate in that location that everyone could still use.
