Game Start Plot Post
This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that I will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.
Events occurring currently;
Late last night, March 31st, the sky above Locke City was lit up by an unusual light show. Similar to a shocking pink Aurora Borealis, it lasted four seconds before everything went right back to normal. Following that, all characters began to experience their network number starting to be repeated endlessly in their mind. Think of it as being similar to having s song stuck in your head.
And today, April 1st, the Network went live. Characters who tried their numbers before April 1st will have gotten a resounding nothing. But from now on, the network will show up every time. At least, for player characters.
Events occurring in the immediate future:
• Immediately characters may begin encountering small animals with strange appearances. Specifically, they will had oddly human like features melded with their natural shapes. Thumbs, hints of human faces and the ability to perform bipedal movement and in birds teeth. Nothing larger than a house cat. They will only appear when characters are away from ordinary humans and in small numbers they will try to run if they even think they are noticed. But they will reappear in short order and usually with increased numbers. By Thursday they will be in the tens and will grow bold enough to attempt to break into homes. They're disorganised and honestly not very threatening, but might attack if not intimidated. Should one of this weird critters be killed or captured, it will revert to normal and one or more Vermini will emerge and attempt to escape.
Reports of these creatures will appear in the news, but will be put forward as rumours and light hearted pieces about how urban myths can spread fast.
Potential events regarding the strange animals and Vermini are;
Should they be allowed to amass regularly in a location, some suspicious humans will begin investigating the place. This might sound mild, but it's seriously bad in the long run.
Should a group of four or more reincarnated humans get together in one place after dark, a huge swarm of Vermini will be attracted to them and infest a human, mutating it and cause it to try its best to murder them. Killing or disabling this mutated human will also kill all the Vermini attached to them, and therefore eliminate the vast majority of them in the city, ending this plot.
• On Friday, a NPC who will be tagging around as a reincarnated human will go to the cops. And he won't come back. Instead, he will make a plea for help on the network and reveal several leads that will let characters get started on being proactive about the situation. It's going to be pretty terrible and make it clear that not only has the invasion begun, but that it has been going on for some time and that anyone might be part of it. Trust no one!
The NPC to be given the dubious honour of being the first casualty is
thewalkingdork, based on the character Ben Paul from the Walking Dead game. In this life, he is instead Paul Ben but remains a high school student at the age of seventeen. To those could potentially have CR with him from pre-game events, he plays in the marching band for one of the high schools in the city, and although he has nothing but the best of intentions he always chokes under pressure and is prone to making stupid mistakes when trying to make up for that. A good kid, with dreadful luck. In this life, he is the eldest child of the family and has has five sisters.
• During the week, the once impressive but currently failing experimental engineering company The Thunder Corporation will announce that it has purchased the Dead District in its entirety. Almost everyone in the media will denounce it as a stupid, desperate move that will waste the last of their money as they try in vain to overcome the legal mess that prevents anyone from developing the area. Although some characters will surely take note, unlucky to raise alarm bells.
Potential Echo Opportunities
Witnessing the strange animals is not enough to receive an Echo. Actually interacting with one is, as is witnessing or interacting with a Vermini. Only one for each opportunity and always the first instance. Additionally, witnessing the NPC's death (or more accurately what comes with it) will be enough to trigger an Echo. This means a total of three potential echoes this week, as well as any induced by canon parallels.
Please direct questions regarding these plot points to the thread below and not the post in general.
