This will be the last mod post on this community. Save The Earth is over. It was a blast, and we hope that everyone who played here had fun, too. Stay as awesome as you are!

There will be a successor game, [community profile] raisetheearth, run by Lexil (of L), Ken (of Lily, Saretha, Natalie), Zalein (of Cesar) and MaxSalsa (of Winter).

All of that said, there is one last IC post for Day 4 on the IC comm for playing out the aftermath of the invasion. Boy NPC tags will be continued.

Going by the threads so far, it has become clear that the Boy has been "defeated" for good, as player characters have already managed to a number of crucial points with him. More information on this can be found at the bottom of the "storytime" under the cut/in the second blockquote.

Thus the game will end as follows:

On the morning of May 2nd, the 4th day of the invasion, enemy soldiers around the world will suddenly cease their attacks. They will tell anyone around them who might hear to go home and make sure that their parents and children and other loved ones are well, and then return to their ships and take off, returning to whence they came from.

The Animals will return to their resting states... and a sight can be seen above Las Vegas and Locke City: A orange-red dragon, rising from within an unconscious Arthur York's body, flies up over Las Vegas, circles over it for a few times and then barrels into the mountain. It instantly heads for the bottom of the mountain and curls up on the gold hoard there. And there it will stay, too. At the same time, Phillip Santorini faints somewhere in Locke City. From his body, a quite different being rises and floats above the city for a while before diving right into the ground, sending tremors through the city for a while as it dives down and burrows deep under the city. The Animals of Locke City and Las Vegas have thus been replaced, and Earth has resealed all her openings, enabling those who live on her to rebuild ...eventually. The Animals will now rest until such time when they should be needed again.

Characters who went to the aliens' home world will be escorted back to Earth personally (please either thread this out with the NPC or contact Kira-mod if you wish to handwave/know ahead of time). In return for each of them, one of the named aliens will be able to return to their place, so by the end of this exchanged, Geoff, Badri, Meredith (if he survived), Young and the Zhangs will all be gone.

The world isn't in a good state after their departure. North America is to a large part inhabitable or at least in a terrible state - it's pretty much your standard apocalyptic setting, complete wasteland in some and "only" ruined shambles in other areas. South America, Europe and Asia are partly in a terrible state, but in other parts all right or even untouched. Even Oceania and Africa, which saw no direct Enemy encounters, carry scars due to the world serpent smashing against them in places when fighting, though they remain for the most part as they were before the invasion. Obviously, even areas of the world that are untouched on the surface will see the disaster on their doorstep with international trade being down, tons of refugees and displaced persons all over the world, and so on.

The numbered will also find that the whole world is an echo boundary now - they won't lose their echoes anywhere any more, unless they lose them completely. Doppelgängers and Wolpertingers stay around if they survived the invasion, but all other Animals go back to sleep. The teleporter has been destroyed in the attack on Locke City.


And in this place, we'll give you a bit of story time. THIS IS STRICTLY OOC KNOWLEDGE. It is also tl;dr – simplified and shortened but still long. Still, it seemed to us that leaving the StE arc of this universe, you deserve to get at least a rough look at the part of the part of the “background info” that likely won't show up again in RtE (if it seems incomplete, that is because other parts will likely show up again in RtE).

I'd prefer to keep the number preeetty small, because one of the questions this post needs to address is how are we going to thread this? It'd be possible to do one long thread and take turns, but it'd take forever with 4-5 people involved, and we have OOC time limits. That's option 1. Option 2 is free-for-all: tag in whatever order you get to it. Option 3 is to work out essentially what happens in this post and RP it out as slow as we have to. How it works


• Each IC day of the invasion last multiple OOC days. The exact schedule is:
Day 1: A snake! OOC date: 29th of April
Day 2: An invasion! OOC date: May 5th
Day 3.1: The invasion spills and a counterinvasion! IC date: May 10th
Day 3.2 - For those people that are GOING TO SPACE IC date: May 16th
Day 4: Now the day is over, night is drawing nigh IC date: May 22th-24th


• Each IC day of the invasion starts when the log for the day goes up. Characters that are not returnees are however very welcome to make their own posts on the comm. All posts that take place during the invasion and are thus open to returnees must be tagged !invasion.

How to travel, a short guide to teleporter and ghost zone usage.

• Echoes are at 10% outside of echo boundaries. All echo boundaries will be connected through space as soon as the moon pink lights go up.

• All characters, returnees and current ones, are eligible for a Tier 2 plot echo from the moon pink lights. If your character has 15 echoes or less, they can receive echoes that are neither plot echoes nor recurrence echoes. Please check the echo request page for more information.


FAQ


How strong are the enemy soldiers? Strong. Think something like a boss fight on medium to hard mode, for every single one of them (think Darth Vader to your Luke or a Balrog to your Gandalf). The Enemy's intelligence will adjust the strength of their soldiers to their opponent's to a degree and send stronger soldiers the way of stronger characters. Their strength lies in: Speed, durability, strength and one special power - that can be superspeed or telekinesis or any other superpower.
Can the enemy soldiers combat my special power X? Yes and no. They come in groups of hundred, and every group has a different ability. If your character is lucky, they will not immediately run into a group whose abilities negates your character's special ability X, but they are coordinated well and will send a group who can to their place as soon as they figure it out. Example: Your character can summon ghosts that are invincible because they are intangible. After that registers with the Enemy's troops, they'll send an unit your character's way that can make intangible things tangible, so after the ghosts took out a number of soldiers they'll suddenly encounter opponents who can kill them.
My character can go to space!/Can I my character fight the spaceships? EXCELLENT. Once Jörmungandr has shown up, they will able to fly up in a straight line until they hit the outer parts of the atmosphere and then fly all the way around the planet at that altitude. They should however be careful to not leave the echo boundaries. And yes, they can fight the spaceships. The ships are armed! Their guns are strong enough to hurt the serpent in the sky (which has a similarly hard to pierce hide as Wise Snake and the Crablobster). On the flip side, the spaceships are as stable as an average Star Trek/Star Wars/etc ship with its shields down. Good metal, but nothing supernatural.
How will the Animals (and their smaller parts, like doppelgänger, santas and wolpertingers) react to my character? Not at all. They battle the Enemy's troops without paying attention to what they might wreck or kill in the way, but won't attack anyonething from Earth, either.
What will doppelgängers do once the invasion starts? Once the invasion happens, the Silent Swan part will take over the doppelgänger's brains/actions insofar as they will see only one goal: Defend Earth, and specifically the Neuschwanstein echo boundary, at all cost. What the rest of their personality does with that goal is up to the players. This means that they should be found in the Neuschwanstein area as that is what their purpose is, but there is a bit wiggle room if there are other factors (mind control by a third source, being imprisoned, etc).
Can my character talk to the invaders? Yes! Some may even express regret about their wrecking havoc, but do it anyway, because staying true to their orders conquers all other considerations.
RETURNEES - Will my character receive any echoes upon having their echoes return? No! BUT they will witness Jörmungandr's pink light, so they can have a tier 2 right upon entering the game. They can also receive recurrence echoes throughout the invasion. Please request your character's echoes on the echo page just like you did while they were in the game!

This post is here both as a FAQ and for people to use it to coordinate their doppelgängers with people who want to run into them.

What is a doppelgänger?
They look exactly like the originals, they have the exact same powers and even the soul/aura/etc is an exact copy of that of the original. Their behaviour and actions however are the exact opposite of the original's powers/actions. If they have the original's memories is up to the player - they can have all of them, only some of them, or none of them.

Where can they be found?
Primarily the Neuschwanstein Area! Some of them may do short trips to other locations if they have a strong incentive to go there, but return quickly. They can use the teleporter.

What do they do?
Mostly, they are around and do the things that they want. They are more likely to be found near the castle, and at least a few will always hang out in the courtyard or, once the castle closes for the night, on the street leading up to it. They do not require sleep.

Who plays them?
The player of the original!

Coordination
This one is fairly straightforward. You'll find a form below in which you can describe what your character(s)'s doppelgänger is like. Other people who're interested in running into them can then hit up your comment and you can plot away.



Example:
Character: Bob & journal
Doppelgänger description: Bob's original is super chipper and excitable, much unlike the stoic Bob. He will hug everyone and try to convince numbered, no matter what age, to get on the next playground and play. He'll mostly be found in the Austrian boundaries, but sometimes takes trips to Christmas Island and Locke to buy sweets with money that he steals through pickpocketing.


Answers to questions asked by players
> Doppels can access the network! To make matters worse, they use a number that is indistinguishable from the original's, so private messages will go to both original and doppel. Numbered can see what their doppels wrote/reply to them and the other way around.
> Doppelgängers don't know that they're copies or why they are there; the memories of their reincarnated lives are a bit like dreams to them, as real or unreal as echo memories are to the individual in question. It is up to the doppel how they interpret that state of being.
> If the original receives an ability/physical change/etc after the doppelgänger's creation, the doppel will receive the "update" at the exact same moment. Memory-updates are up to the player.
> Up to two threads played with the doppelganger will count towards AC.
> How long the doppelgangers as a group will stick around is up to player action - they will vanish when/if their centre is destroyed; the individual doppelgangers however are as mortal as the originals - so unless the original is immortal, they can be killed by normal means.
> If a character has a doppelganger in canon, encountering a doppel in StE can of course cause recurrence echoes. The StE-doppel can however not have memories/abilities/etc of the canon-doppel that the StE-character doesn't have, as the StE-doppel is a doppelganger of the reincarnated StE-character and not a reincarnation of their canon-doppel.
> No matter how strong the incentive for a doppel is to stay in a different location, doppels will feel obliged to spend at least a couple of hours per day within a short distance of Neuschwanstein Castle. They will not stay permanently in any of the other locations.

The Lapland location's plot will go down between the 11th and the 20th. It will for the most part be a trip to Lapland with the Numbered Special Commission Group that through said group everyone is invited to go on. This trip will include elements that are and that aren't in need of combat power, so characters who don't have the latter are absolutely welcome! Be aware that this plot involves kidnapping of children.

On the 11th, David Graibiger and Monika Hallbach will contact the numbered that have signed up for the Numbered Special Commission Group. There was a short notice in December about them heading to Lapland eventually to check things out, but politics had to get sorted out first - yet now the marching order for Finland has finally come, and they are urgent! The information that he can give about their mission right now reads as follows:

> Numbered are asked to inform the network and bring numbered friends, but most importantly be in Rovaniemi on the morning of the 13th. They will take a bus northwards from there to an area that the various involved authorities consider the epicenter of the development.

The 13th will mostly be for travelling, briefing and learning how to drive a car in the snow as well as learn the handling of a rifle (for those who have no other combat powers).

The 14th-19th will consist of searching the area and getting closer to the issue. Once some of those that do the abductions are captured, others will be tasked with trying to speak to them and get information.

• Opt-in through a "-fourth wall" tag. There will also be posts put up by the mods to allow the fourth wall characters to put up threadstarters in log or network post format.

• There will be the following events/activities in the various echo boundaries during the 4th wall (visiting characters and current StE-characters alike are "numbered"):
- 2nd, all locations: A sudden surge in Vermini and Vermedi activity! Some of them are aggressive towards the numbered and will attack, but some seem rather interested in herding or baiting people with numbers towards other people with numbers... They clearly want as many numbered as possible to be together or at least not be alone today.
- 3rd, Lapland: There's a snowmobile race north of Rovaniemi and someone that totally isn't an alien, why would you think so signed up a good number of people that all happen to have numbers. Will you take up the challenge?
- 4th, all locations: Something is off. Numbered will find themselves teleported to random places within the echo boundaries - perhaps you are now in the middle of dark, snowy Lapland, or in the heat of the Australian jungle? In a casino in Las Vegas or a castle in Germany? Or in your friend's shower in Locke?
- 5th, Las Vegas: Bestselling author Roy Locke is cooperating with some of his fans and a few people from media and politics to throw a New Year's party, especially inviting all those who have numbers. He would like to meet as many numbered as possible!

You are free to tag around to your heart's content even after the fifth, but no new posts may be made anymore.


Information for visitors


• The basics of StE can be found summarized in our new player guide.

• This might be called fourth wall event, but please do not truly fourth wall other characters. Simply use the "slightly different" method, for example: Even if your character watched Star Wars on TV, they will now have watched "Star Battle" in which Lucas Moonrunnuer is Dark Viper's son, so they can't tell Luke Skywalker about his parentage.

• Allowed are all fictional characters. This includes, appable characters aside, also characters that have too little canon information to be apped as well as CRAUs from other games. This excludes real persons, personal accounts, and so on. Doubles of characters that are already in the game are fine. If you're uncertain, please ask!

• There are two ways for characters to come into StE for the fourth wall:
- As they are in canon/their original universe. Players are asked to modify their characters at their discretion if alterations are necessary (to have them survive or not break the universe upon arrival, etc). You do not have to powercap/humanize your character unless it severely impacts their ability to function in-game!
- As StE-AUs. Characters that come in AU-ed may have up to five echoes by the end of the fourth wall - these can either be gained during it or already be present at its beginning. Please do not use the echo post for these, but this thread. If such characters app afterwards and are accepted, they may retain these echoes, though they will, like everyone, not remember what happened during the fourth wall.

• Both types of visitors may not leave the echo boundaries (Locke City (America), Las Vegas (America), the Neuschwanstein Area (Germany/Austria), Lapland (Finland) and the Christmas Island (Australia) (for brief descriptions of the locations check the setting page). They will simply vanish if they do and respawn on the platform of the teleporter in Locke City, no matter where they left the boundaries.

• Visitors will have access to the network: This means that all visitors will have their very own number, and by writing this on any surface will be able to access the text, audio and video function that connects them with all other characters. Please note that there are only two privacy settings: Open to all and locked to one single person; there is no in-between.

Information for current StE characters

• Once the 4th wall is over, all that happened will be forgotten by numbered and unnumbered alike, and all that the visitors altered will vanish. Newspapers, security cameras, etc will simply not cover the days between the 2nd and the 5th. With one exception: If the player wishes so, every character can keep one brief memory and one minor item.

• It's perfectly fine to bring in characters for the fourth wall that are too close to other characters of yours to app them!

• Up to two 4th Wall threads can be used towards AC.

He's gonna make you an offer that you can't refuse

Rumours about Vincent Albero taking on the Numbered himself have been grossly exaggerated. As it turns out, he just wants to have a chat with everyone!

Of course, to make sure he really does reach everyone he'll need to address the network somehow. And how better to do that than simply kidnap one of you hideous freaks to make a post for him?

We are looking for one character to get snatched up by mafia goons and be forced at gunpoint into making a network post. Assuming that nobody makes any rescue attempts or tries anything stupid, the character will be set free a few hours later! Huzzah!

There's a thread for kidnapping volunteers below, so please feel free to sign up there! We'll be making our decision within the next few days - priority will be given to characters who have not yet had major plot involvement, are publically "out" as numbered (or are easily identified as such), and who the mafia are at least likely to think would make an easy kidnapping target.


Why is change so hard?

As announced in the last plot post, the geography will drastically change starting on the 24th all the way through the 28th of August. A mountain is rising up insider the echo boundaries... and slowly, another change will happen as well, starting on the 26th and lasting through the end of August. The area west of the echo boundaries will drop as if there is suddenly a hole under it, first single buildings or parts of streets cracking down and then larger parts, at the same time as the lower areas both there and inside the echo boundaries will start to flood. The water is coming from under the echo boundaries, as if the inaccesibly a deep, large water reservoir there is opened and pressed out by something else shoving down on it...

While the rise of the mountain mysteriously protects the buildings on top of it, the structures adapting to the changed ground, the areas affected by the flooding will be less lucky, and unlike the areas that are rising, there will be forced evacuation for them as the pattern of holes in the ground opening and swallowing streets and houses is a lot more familiar to the officials.

The flooded areas and roughly five feet of land at its shores are also within the echo boundaries, that means that the echo boundaries have yet again expanded. At midnight between the 22nd/23rd, all characters from Middle Earth will notice a weaker version of the sensation that an echo causes them to feel.

Don't worry, they are only happy to see you!

In Locke as well as in Vegas, reporters will start to actively search out the numbered for an interview. They might ambush them in the streets, show up at their school or job, ring at their doors... And mostly ask questions from the following areas, with obvious variations due to location: The theft of project jump; the murders and abductions in Vegas; the big echo locations (the mysterious new church in Locke and the geology changes in Vegas); and intensely personal personal questions like "how do you shower, Mr dragon?" and "don't you worry that that additional wing on you will turn off the boys?". Some of the reporters are aware of there being more at more crimes against the numbered, but it isn't likely that it will be brought up even if the person is obviously injured.


Where two or three are gathered

The cultist conference log will go up tonight. All invitations have by now gone out, and Badri might have encouraged your character to go. More information will be given in the log post, but if any questions regarding the conference have cropped up or crop up in the future, please direct them to the General Questions thread.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The mod team, currently consisting of Louise (head), Kira (head), Aave, Bookie and Len will be joined by two new helper mods. We'd like to extend a warm welcome to to Fae (of Killian Ryan) and Mark (of Liam Benedict). Mark will help with lists, AC and apps, and Fae will help with npcing.

Having Fae on the team, we now can offer npcing of minor NPCs on request. This currently includes monster encounters, mafia encounters and cultist encounters, but may expand in the future.

PLOTTING POST

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.
