Lost again, Ace?

'nuther newbie inbound! Hi everyone, I'm Phoenix, lured this way by the gal with the werewolf and the cat (i.e. Gail).

I'm bringing in Ace from the Kuni no Alice/Alice in the Country series. Short version: he's really goofy and nice until you hit the part where he's crazy.

The currently more relevant part to you guys: he's now Horace Knight, 33-year-old assistant manager of his brother's sporting goods store, Knight's Outdoors. There's a divorced wife in the woodworks somewhere and his favorite thing in the world is his six-year-old son. He's a very happy, stable individual, and I can't wait for the game to screw that all up and make him crazy again~

His nuclear family are already named NPCs, but if anyone would like to know him from being a customer at the store (think of it as a small family-run version of Dick's Sporting Goods) I'd love to hash out some pre-Echoes CR. Happy to be here!

In his previous life, he was a street kid that became a mob boss and then was turned into a vampire. I'm Melon and I play this gal. She hails from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn where her original name was Mineva Lao Zabi, the last remaining member of the Zabi family and princess of the Zeon Empire. Here, she's Audrey Burne, the stereotypical 'poor little rich girl' with a never-there father who's CEO of a large publishing corporation called Zenith. She lives here in Locke with her uncle, attending Locke U as a music major.

Hi Phoenix!! I'm also new (I'm Lucy) with only this one, Aria {Aradia} Megido from Homestuck. :> She likes outdoorsy things, so perhaps she's seen him around at the sporting goods store while stocking up - or if he ever needs a babysitter, she can help out.

Basically Aria is an easy-going, friendly teenager (sixteen) living in Little Tokyo with her sister, who works part-time at her grandmother's antique shop. She also really likes Indiana Jones.

Babysitter, sure! :D One of the things I know Horace will be floundering with down the line is how to keep his kid safe as things go crazy and he starts turning into somebody else. A babysitter he's already a little familiar with within the numbers club would be a definite bonus!

That is basically the best babysitting set up ever, Aria gives it an A+. She's pretty entertaining to small kids, I think, since she'l play pretend and whatever with them without getting bored.

I read some of the manga and liked it! I'm excited to see Ace get his crazy back.

As for pre-CR, hmmm... A little over a month ago, Alex bought a rifle. Maybe he could have got it from Horace's store?

Sure! The gun section is one of Horace's favorites, along with the camping gear. Alexander shows up shopping in that section and Horace is front-line salesfellow. He's a little out there and disorganized like the Ace we know and love, but definitely up to snuff on his stuff when it comes to the goods. Could possibly have made a memorable impression on Alex that way?

Oh yeah, definitely! Alex has used rifles for hunting in the past, but he's not really into the actual equipment, so I can totally see Horace--

... I just noticed the 'ace' in his name...

--chatting it up with him about what he wants, etc, and Alex being super receptive to it. At the end, he gives him his name and offers his hand for a shake, thinks oh shit now he has my name I'm traceable, then realizes that's dumb because he'd get his name from whatever forms he has to fill out anyway. :|b

Hee! I'm proud of the Hor-ace. Both subtle and blatant alike! I like changing names around so there's a difference but you can still look at the name and know who it is. Added bonus: "Horace" means "timekeeper"! It's like the best name there could possibly ever be for Ace without sticking with Ace.

But yes this is a good scenario, I approve! :D Distinct enough for Ace to remember but also misremember in his scatterbrained way. "Mister Alexander, sure I remember! You came in and bought the Remington 783! ...or was it the Browning A-Bolt? ...The X-Bolt? Hnn...."

I had to be enabled over a sustained period, because I hadn't played a VN before. Now? Gonna be a beta for the sequel's translation patch, haha. Also a VN addict just slow to play them. I've got a backlog piled up to get through, DMMd among them. I'll get there eventually! Translation patches sure do make it easier going but oh man I didn't even know DMMd had a sequel, awesome. All the more reason for me to catch up!

Awesome another night owl, life just gets more epic. In my case from my grandma on down we're wired for nights, though I was likewise working closing shifts up till recently.

I get nudged about trying more, but I'm slow too. Sit me in front of an RPG and I will do all the things, but on a computer screen? Turtle. Will totally look forward to seeing what you think when you get to DMMd, if you want to discuss at that time. The sequel's like an extension of all the endings, with some bonus material - it's called Reconnect. Definitely worth catching up on, my hope is it'll be out in the next couple of months. I'm supposed to do my part sometime in August.

Hello, other person who appears to be playing from a canon that involves playing cards!

I'm Airdra! I've got three characters here: Mort Yokugawa, Kamen Rider OOO's Dr. Maki who is now a psychiatrist instead of an evil scientist; Arthur Curry, who is now a school bus driver instead of Aquaman; and Hajime Aikawa here, who is now heavily involved in running his family's Japanese restaurant when he was once a terrible bug-monster and Kamen Rider. Hajime's canon's pretty heavy on the card theming, and in addition to being the Joker, he also used the suit of Hearts to do his fighting with. He is stuck as a terrible bug-monster at the moment thanks to Echoes hating him, but he'll be getting weird playing cards back to counteract that.

At any rate, it is nice to meet you, and I hope you enjoy the game!

Aquaman. Oh I can't wait to see him around!

In Ace's case, he essentially is a face-card, but he's also the embodiment of an hour (which is never specified but I like to imagine the one o'clock duration). He's called a role-holder, whereas an actual person called a card is literally faceless. The series creator(s) rolled up Wonderland and cards and time metaphors into a crazy little bundle. It's great.

Ace also used to work for the Jokers of his world, so between that and Hajime's heart suit, I'm amused by the surface-level similarities in theme!

Mine is basically The Highest Stakes Game of Old Maid Ever, pretty much, and Hajime's role as the Joker is to end all life on Earth whether he likes it or not, oops. If they ever had occasion to talk about Jokers, I'm sure that would be an entertaining discussion. XD

Oh my. So world-ending Joker on one hand and pair of prison-warden Jokers sending Ace to capture and/or kill criminals on the other. And yet two of these things are still rather better than the other.... XD

Being destined to end the world sucks, at least he doesn't remember that part yet. XD (Seriously, the hearts suit cards are what keep him from going full-on monster on everyone in-canon...and he doesn't have any of those back yet, poor guy.)
