Jack actually has a lot of mental problems, so for the most part these days he's actually a decent guy. In combat areas... not so much. So it's a pretty good setup to work it that way, starting with a terrible first impression... it can only go up from there! =D With lots of ohnoes up-and-down in the future if he ends up flipping out on the invaders.
Well plotwise as of TODAY in fact, that sure is Jack's face on the news, naming him as the main suspect in the murder of a family of eight. So that sure is a thing. (This time he didn't actually do it though, heh.) Other than that, after the trial was when he actually moved to Special Ops... you know, small squads out in the middle of nowhere... where nobody's going to complain if you mess around gutting insurgents. :P So yeah, nothing between the trial and now.
