Plot Post for October 23rd!

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit, they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

Events occurring currently:

• As of this morning (October 23rd, between the hours of 3:00-4:00 A.M., a large portion of the Thunder Corp.-owned Dead District has been bombed. Any living or working late in the run-down part of town or, alternatively, possessed of supernatural hearing may have been disturbed by the noise - though they’d not have been harmed by default; inhabited areas and locations such as the LSR Clinic are not within the area affected and, by now, no casualties have been reported. Entire blocks of buildings have, however, been effectively brought to the ground - and no evidence of parties involved or responsible has, as it appears, been found.

• Any snake statues left standing until today are now no longer anywhere to be found in the Dead District.

Events occurring in the immediate future:

• Thunder Corp. deny any knowledge as to the motivation or perpetrators of the bombing as they’d done in response to the rumors against them in September - officials are, however, beginning to voice suspicions to the media "putting two and two together" culminating in announcement in a formal press conference at soonest possible convenience. In line with and supporting their statements, the police department will be investing time and effort in the investigation, identification, and any necessary subsequent incarceration of “eco-terrorists” at work in Locke City.

And you can imagine what this means for you, our reincarnated heroes!

Police presence will now be increasing in all public places - in the form of increased patrols and watch over not only business and industrial areas but such populous everyday locations as Locke City High School and LCU, claimed to be in concurrent increase in drug investigations begun in August, although mercifully enough those with dogs will be few and far between.

• ...Or they will be on all days forecastable except for October 31st - Halloween. It’s a night that invites mischief and with what mischief appears to be afoot in the city nowadays, the police department will apparently see fit to keep watch over most areas in which citizen traffic is expected - shadowing residential and recreational areas as the sun goes down, with not bulbous-snouted beagles but some very ornery-looking red-eyed German Shepherds. Hopefully you’ve arranged such plans as to avoid a Halloween with hellhounds!

Events potentially occurring in the immediate future:

• Under pretense and/or motivation of current eco-terrorism and drug scares, from here on out until any further notice, depending on past actions, reincarnates will be at risk of active approach by unfriendly or dubiously-desirable parties - police and potentially otherwise.

Players of characters at the HIGHEST RISK of confrontation, investigation, or similar trouble are marked down to be contacted via surprise PM or Private Plurk within the near future to begin plotting accordingly.

If you are unsure if your character would be at high risk - or if they’ve simply done commendably at laying low and you’re open to seeing who or what they may run afoul of by happenstance - please, sign them up in the appropriate thread below this post to know to let us know you’re open to them receiving trouble, preferably with a run-down of what they’ve been involved in, where they’re visible, and/or where they might have invited or run the risk of inviting attention so we can tell you exactly what’s in store for them if chosen!

If you receive a PM or Plurk, you may opt out!

Potential Echo Opportunities

Visits to Tuning Towers will, again, continue to grant Echoes indefinitely - for anyone willing to get that close to the police! Echo opportunities are also likely to present themselves in instances of trouble that characters may wind up in in the weeks to come.

Please direct questions regarding these plot points to the thread below and not the post in general.

BEFORE I ASK, are characters involved in incidents necessarily going to be arrested?

Not sure if it's enough but Audrey has been working quietly at her little organization of numbered individuals, all under the pretense of a gaming club. She's fairly well known as the daughter of the Zenith publishing tycoon as well.

I'm all up for Derek getting into more trouble. Due to his little red eye incident.

Although he probably got caught out by the police dogs while I was on hiatus. I imagine he's probably done something stupid in the meantime like, accidentally mentioned something about murder. Oops.

Asuka and several other people were involved in an incident where gunshots were fired at an Echo-generated monster, so someone might have noticed that.

Other than that she hasn't had the guts to go out and do anything suspicious, but she might now that everything's so chaotic. She'll also be seeing cops regularly as an LCU student who walks everywhere and she has the shortest temper known to mankind, so a routine stop might escalate if the cops are rude.

Walter here has probably not been very good about not making it obvious that he's watching his back at work, if the cops going after one of their own would work.

Mac has stayed decently good at keeping a low profile except he was totally around when a giant fire chicken sprang out of someone's Echo-having, and no one (aside from Ellie who has threatened him with all the murder if he spills she was the guard) has figured out it was him raiding the warehouse a couple months back.

However, Mac's past is littered with troublemaking offenses - nothing super majorly serious, but all the classic delinquent signs. Graffiti tagging, out past curfew, the occasional street brawl. He ran with a group called The Tunnel Snakes, which was a decently troublesome if low-threat gang that officers would have on file (since it's been brought up ICly by former officer Raul and current officer Kotetsu). Said gang has not been active for about two years now, but were active for two to three years before that.

So while he hasn't done anything major in terms of sticking his head out, he's got enough past that bringing him in in some capacity wouldn't be unreasonable.

Tony hasn't done anything but whaat are the chances of Riku getting in the crosshairs of this perhaps? I think he was actually pretty careful for the whole water event, but there's the mines if they watched that and the warehouse-- he probably practices his flashy parkour thing from time to time, too. >>

Walter hasn't been doing anything particularly noticeworthy until Sunday, when he took part in the ill-advised snake hunt with Octavia and Alan. It involved a whole lot of failure, fairyshit and tentacles, so it was probably pretty noticeable!

Raul here left the police very visibly and on poor terms after the Occupy shutdown two years ago. He's been operating as a private investigator (occasionally bringing him back in contact with the cops), and he has a history of involvement with left-wing organizations in the city. Nothing mainly environmentalist, but certainly radical and in that general direction.

If police were to follow his movements, his involvement with the martial arts classes for the Network would probably be uncovered.

Nothing really comes to mind at the moment for Cain and Rachel.

Danny's got a few problems that I imagine would pick him out easily for the cops:

1) Eye and hair color. The hair could be bleached, but eyes that shade of green (and eyes that are luminescent) are definitely unnatural.
2) He fucking glows.
3) He tries to wear things to cover this up--big hat, sunglasses, lots of sweaters and scarves to hide the glow, but even that looks pretty suspicious.
4) Unpredictable intangibility issues that cause him to nearly vanish from sight at some times and get him stuck in things at others. The police might find him with an arm halfway through a traffic light pole on his way home from school or something.

(or they could see him bleeding green goop, which I imagine would definitely be cause for concern, but he does a lot less of that in public than the other stuff above.)

Also he is the son of the local conspiracy theorists who did accurately predict the water poisoning weeks before it actually happened, which might also make him more of a target.

Julien's done pretty well with not calling attention to himself. Being "sick" more often and wearing weird "contact lenses" is not terribly noteworthy. No one's noticed him policewatching and he's been very careful with his other activities. Can't really be traced back to him. Of course there have been a ton of those, even so - first snake statue, statue pulldown, art gallery visit where he pretended to be a waiter, haunted, mines, he covered for Aaron at the clinic once, led-ish the reservoir expedition, got sick at the Tower, saw a snake monster.

He's the most visible and energetic member of the LSR staff, and he's pretty open about going into the DD multiple times a day. He's set up in a long-abandoned house near the DD's edge, not far from the LSR, to take care of sick pigeons, and he wants to be doing that even now.

Which... okay, obvious eco interest. Plus other people have gone in with him before, or go to that same place on their own. He might be worth questioning. But it's quickly clear that the birdhouse stuff is pretty simple and benign.

If the clinic was ever investigated even in a very cursory way he's visible, and seems young. Though I'd like to avoid anything too unpleasant happening to him, for now.

Nat is even better about lying low, but she also might end up poking her nose into things.

Mischief Alex has been involved in:
1) tearing down the initial snake statue in the dd (led by Chris, wearing a hoodie and a beanie, I believe)
2) deliberately touching the snake statues at the art exhibit
3) interrupting the dumping of pink goo into the city's water reservoir (with Julien, Hajime, Aria and a few others, disguised)
4) burglary of two? Thunder corp residences (led by Vanessa, wearing a cut stocking over his head ha ha ha)
5) visiting Tuning Towers (before the increased police presence)
6) tangoing with a bipedal snake statue on the 21st 19th (with banagher and Vanessa, still in progress)
7) wow how did I forget the initial mines visit wherein the sage of the earth called them all in, he went to that
8) batgate 2013 when he bumbled around the city as a bat for a day
9) tainted water induced mirth and bumbling at a bar (with Arthur, John, and Ravindra)

And more everyday stuff:
1) fangs that were recently noticed by his rig partner and brushed off as Halloween festivity
2) sudden paling of his skin
3) if he isn't careful about drinking blood regularly, his coloration (skin, hair, eyes) starts to fade

While John's been keeping very low for the most part, he's also spent a good amount of time and will continue spending a good amount of time watching people to see if they zone out. There could be enough skulking to seem suspicious? If they're enough on edge to stretch it that far, I'd be willing to go along with it.

OH ALSO he... might try to investigate the whole explosion thing himself? Once work at the hospital calms down. I don't know. But that would probably be... really suspicious. So I could maybe get back to you on that?

Shou is a bit of a troublemaker as in he gets into fights and tends to speed a bit more than necessary. He is also here on a visa and has been helping out with break-ins that the other numbered have been committing - usually by being the driver.

He's probably not a huge threat but he does cause a bit of a scene.

Ray kind of knocked a giggle dude out in a mall bathroom and then most likely proceeded to drag his unconscious body THROUGH the mall and out to his car. Which is probably not that common a sight but knowing THIS PLACE hey man whatever.

Besides that he helped fight a cheesy looking monster thing.

And he is also doing a snake fight so HEY I DUNNO I'm new at this.

I'd be surprised if Vanessa wasn't already on that list but just in case here's the sign up.

What's she been involved in? Hahahaha!

Burglary, theft, pickpocketing, card fraud, implied drug trafficking, confirmed firearms trafficking, attempted robbery and involvement in the death or at least injury of a police officer the previous year. Girl's a one-woman crime wave.
peacefulwinter: (This is awkward.)

Re: INCIDENT SIGN-UPS

[personal profile] peacefulwinter 2013-10-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Winter has, for the most part, been laying low by virtue of lack of anything offensive to really do. But there are a few specific things that might call attention to her:

1) Winter has had her suspicious animated plushie hanging around pretty much 24/7 since she got him; he's pretty good at playing dead, but not perfect. He also flies.
2) Present at the mines and the Tuning Towers; drank contaminated water in a public park.
3) If anyone was watching the Dead District Sunday afternoon, there was a bright blue glow over there, from which a blue-haired girl could be seen fleeing; Winter was, at various points before and after, there to be seen.

...Also, Winter will not react well to the increased police presence in the school she sees herself as the nominal protector of, and can be expected to be cool and possibly standoffish toward officers investigating students with anything less than a benign manner. This is likely to get her into more mundane trouble, though even if she's investigated she's not necessarily going to actually stop unless someone on the network strongly advises her against it.

And a quick edit after 11/16's plot post: as the police continue to snoop around more and more and get further into business she believes she and the rest of the student council can manage, she'll get increasingly irritable and short, and will come dangerously close to obstructing their investigation. I would imagine the only way to make her move, again excepting someone from the network convincing her, is actual punishment - detention, suspension, arrest, or some combination therein. A threat to have her removed from her position would also work, though not forever.

banagher has a way of laying low while simultaneously getting involved, but he's had a presence in a lot of stuff because he's a meddler X(

1. visited the first snake statues in the DD
2. hung around the following snake statues at the art gallery long enough to get an echo from them
3. investigated the farms with lyall and stella
4. got haunted the first time around
5. went on sagequest!
6. drank the gigglewater in public, at a movie theater
7. went to tuning towers three (SOB) times -- the first with kanti and richard, where kanti barfed on richard's shoes, the second with alex, julien, and ax-alex, where ax-alex grew stalk eyes and jules got birdie flu, and the third where he encountered winter and hoped nothing would go wrong, finally (the third was the only time he actually got to enter the lobby)
8. was look-out for vanessa's break-in to the thunder corp. employees houses
9. running like a wuss from the bipedal snakes with alex and vanessa (on the 19th, ongoing)
10. involved in trying to find out where the echo loss barrier is centered

numbers club social butterfly etc., etc.

Well, Edgeworth may have drawn some attention and he is also in a profession where he'd see cops often enough in court and to confer with arrested clients as well. But as for things he's personally done, it's as follows:

1. The giggle water. I mostly handwaved this, but since it happened before his actual intro, figured he was out of town for a bit and got caught unaware when he returned.
2. Made two visits to Tuning Towers, both times had a rather noticeable reaction because of gaining back his phobia.
3. Had a run in with Mort's monster.
4. Being possessed by Danny.

Definitely enough that it could potentially be counted as suspicious

Arthur has been the MOST SUBTLE and LEAST NOTICEABLE since all this has started FOR HE IS LIKE A NINJA. Okay, I lied. He kicked it off by falling into a tank full of dolphins and getting thrown out of the marine park after going on and on about how they were speaking to him, and since then he has been very loudly and obviously talking to fish and sea life in places like pet stores, grocery stores, and the beach. Pet store employees in his area probably refer to him as "the freaky fish guy" and he's probably that regular customer who freaks out the staff but spends enough money that the manager's not going to throw them out.

As for my other characters, they haven't been as bad but have still had their moments. Hajime's been running around outside as a giant bug here and there (and once threatened a Thunder employee in that form), most recently to fight one of the snakes. Mort summoned a monster in his office and chased it throughout town, which ended in a big fight in a park.

Marisa will soon have crashed her car into one of the snakes (backdated log in the works). Her story will be that she lost control of her car and hit a lamppost, but considering she was in the dead district at the time, that's probably enough to be at least a little suspicious.
