Plot post for February 16th - Poll results and preparation for the Season 1 Finale!

The results of the two polls are in!

RESULTS

In regards to the alien and Wise Snake battles, the majority have decided on Scenario 2:
The alien flees the farmhouse and escapes to Locke City, where it may be apprehended and destroyed. Its destruction will lead to the release of a burst of energy that will be felt by and immediately afterward awaken Wise Snake. Characters involved in the farmhouse battle will be in the fray with no-to-minimal time to prepare or recuperate; characters that participate in the battle against WS may be identified by non-reincarnates.

In regards to a breather period between Season 1 and Season 2, the majority have voted in favor of a breather period lasting two weeks.

So let’s get down to business.

The plot as a whole (the alien + Wise Snake) happens on the same day, but we will be staggering their respective posts. The post for the alien showdown will be forward-dated two weeks in advance. The post for Wise Snake’s awakening will be forward-dated at least a week in advance.

The alien post will go up no later than February 23rd. The IC-date of the post will be March 9th, a Sunday, during daylight hours.

THE ALIEN

Much of the IC plan draft remains the same. However, Roxy (and Danny?) will use their intangibility to investigate the room with the keypad lock during the one-week period of surveillance (IC date: March 2 - 8) . Therefore, characters will know that the room is decorated to hell and back with various flowers and artificial lighting. There are two inhabitants in the room: the small alien, three apples high, and its "steed", seven feet tall. There are also computer screens and such, the designs of which look like they've come straight out of retro science fiction.

The activity of the small alien will be enough for the characters to guess that it is, in fact, the alien (rather than the seven feet tall robot).

Once the alien has reached a worrisome damaged state, it will flee the farmhouse via flight. It will fly towards Tuning Towers. Characters must finish the alien off. Even if this conclusion isn’t reached through threading, we will go forward with the assumption that the alien will be defeated and subsequently explode.

The explosion will not be traditionally fiery or loud. It will be more like an invisible force bursting outward in a ring that will be felt by both non-reincarnates and reincarnates. The reincarnates will feel it much, much more, though. It won’t hurt, but it will have the effect of knocking reincarnates off their feet, temporarily disorienting them, etc.

WISE SNAKE

Immediately following the alien’s destruction, an earthquake similar to the one that occurred on December 3rd will strike as Wise Snake emerges from below Tuning Towers. Wise Snake is several blocks long and light pink. It will go on an indiscriminate rampage that does not target any one thing, but will respond to attacks on itself. It does not have any special “attacks”; it is a monster of brute force. However, it is capable of shedding individual scales which reform into miniature snakes ranging approximately 10 to 30 feet long. Unlike David Proud’s statues, they will not explode upon destruction.

Reincarnates will not be the only ones engaging Wise Snake in battle. The National Guard will be deployed to destroy Wise Snake as a threat on the city. They will not intentionally harm those involved in battle, but they will not go to great lengths to prevent harm to them, either. Basically, if you’re in the way, you better get out of the way.

The defeat of Wise Snake will result in an explosion very similar to the explosion following the alien’s destruction. Unlike the alien, however, Wise Snake will not physically explode, but immediately turn into mundane stone and release ethereal bubbles that float into the sky before disappearing, not unlike video game bosses.

Wise Snake will be defeated after taking an unspecified amount of hits from both the reincarnates and the military. The mods will not be NPCing Wise Snake. Players are free to incorporate Wise Snake’s reactions into their threads using the aforementioned information. Players who do not wish to engage their character directly with Wise Snake will have a thread in which they can set up their own open or planned threads in response to the destruction caused by Wise Snake, its miniature scale snakes, and/or the National Guard. In short, characters can be as plausibly involved as their players want them to be.

Wise Snake’s scale snakes can be NPCed by the mods by request.

Players will be responsible for NPCing civilians. Assume they’re in a panicked state similar to city populaces that are under attack – ex. a lot of the city-wide battles in superhero films.

The threading for the actual moment of Wise Snake’s defeat will be restricted to selected characters. The following criteria will be used: characters who possess offensive abilities, characters who have not yet had a moment to shine, characters who can feasibly be involved in the battle, players who are reliable taggers, players who are reasonably active.

If you’re interested, please sign up here before the 23rd. We’ll do our best to make a speedy selection and throw together the team so involved parties may plan how they might wish to go about executing the final barrage of attacks.

Characters who don’t make an effort to reasonably obscure/conceal their identity and use unusual powers will eventually have their identities squirreled out by the FBI.

THE AFTERMATH – IMMEDIATE

A good chunk of the business district will be in ruins. The damage radius may be larger depending on character action. There will be a lot of casualties. Emergency responders will be working alongside the National Guard in rescue efforts.

On a more light-hearted side, though, if there’s enough interest, players will have the option of a news reporter pulling their character over for a brief interview. Players are free to NPC their interviewers or request a mod to NPC. We’d probably add this thread onto the Wise Snake post later on.

If you’re interested, let us know!

THE AFTERMATH – TWO WEEKS

This will constitute our two-week breather period.

The entirety of the business district will be without power or water for several days. Rescue efforts will continue. Schools will be closed for a few days. The FBI will investigate the remains of Wise Snake, but the monster will, for the meantime, remain where it fell. The area will be guarded in part by local police, sniffer dogs among them.

Locke City and its “real life superheroes” will be a hot topic around the world. There will be several shitty phone videos of Wise Snake’s rampage in which characters may be (poorly) visible if players wish uploaded onto YouTube. Some people will think they’re great. Others will think they’re an abomination. Still others will think this is all an elaborate hoax. Feel free to come up with different public opinions!

The FBI and local PD are going to want the identities of any reincarnates who displayed unusual abilities during Wise Snake’s rampage. However, during this two-week period, no characters will be openly investigated. All characters whose identities were intentionally or accidentally revealed will be covertly monitored.

This gets tricky for the characters who Echo back mecha units. Their size makes them easy targets for the FBI to locate and potentially acquire. Players who are planning to Echo back large, easily noticeable robots/units/etc., please go to this thread.

Regardless, we’ll put up another OOC post specifically for the two weeks after the defeat of the alien and Wise Snake once we’re closer to it. The rest of what happens during these two weeks – damage control, relief aid, national confusion, worldwide attention, etc. – will be considered background noise.

ECHO OPPORTUNITIES

Participation in the battle with the alien grants one Echo. Proximity to Wise Snake grants one Tier 2 Echo independent of the monthly Tier 2 limit. As always, canon recurrences grant related Echoes!

Please direct questions regarding these plot points to the thread below and not the post in general.

short answer: NOT A CLUE, long answer: okay let's see.

icly, banagher has been flipping out about the possibility of the gundam showing up, but hasn't really thought of a contingency plan for when it does, mostly because he still doesn't have the greatest reference scale to draw from on how big it is.

for the immediate future while it'll presumably be parked downtown in the wreckage, it really will be a sitting duck. WHICH I'M OKAY WITH -- the unicorn is pretty unique in that it's linked to banagher's biometrics. it's extremely resistant to outside interference (not impossible, but taking the level of tech the gundam is at versus the present day, it'll seem like it) and that basically makes it a big shiny paper weight without banagher. i'd say he'd actually be fairly compliant with law enforcement/the FBI because he's not that canon balls-to-the-wall dumb (yet) but i don't know what that'd entail for him in the long run? based on what the FBI will do with the numbered characters, that is.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE A FUN BIG FAT MYSTERY TBH I'M ALL ON BOARD we need some political powerhouse characters who do speeches, stat

but back on topic -- i think if it was established they were a very separate entity from the corrupt locke police, he'd probably be all the more reluctant to make waves, knowing so little himself. though he may try to run a game of twenty questions to get them to prove it. either way, he won't even know it can't operate without him, so he may even let someone take a crack at it and figure it out for themselves. (people can get into the cockpit just fine, but it'll just sit there like a chunk of lead.) during the fight, thanks to the way his development has gone so far, he'll also try to be mindful of collateral and noncombatants. as much as he can, anyway.

as for managing it, i figure winding up on the news may put him in contact with his rich-as-fuck dad, which may help with the general fuel/energy expenses just to keep it operating at bare minimum. which is all he'll really think of, moving it from point a to b. otherwise it may require some pc finagling or idk THE CONTRIBUTION OF VIEWERS LIKE YOU donations from the supporters of locke's superheroes. (which would be pretty boss ngl.)

I DID HAVE QUESTIONS THOUGH RE: BASIC ARMAMENTS

does the entire robot count as a tier 2, or would the tier 2 subsist of, say, the robot + its shield, or the robot + the ability to pilot it? i had planned on it being the most basic of the basic, so no guns or shields, and in the unicorn's case, all its extra programming (la+, NT-D, and weapons driver system) offline. it does come outfitted with vulcan guns (mounted in its head) and a design unique to the unicorn is its beam 'tonfas' -- which are beam sabers mounted on the suit's wrists. neither can be removed for combat. would these be allowed or would they have to be similarly nerfed/echoed back?

and since i see gn particle being discussed, i should mention minovsky particles do much the same thing, with arguably more basis in reality and less OP GOD PARTICLE. however, a single suit like the unicorn wouldn't disperse enough of them to really be an issue, i don't think.

SORRY IF YOU ANSWERED ANY OF THIS ELSEWHERE MY BRAIN IS LEAKING OUT MY EARS

OKAY THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT just getting all my ducks in a row, thank you!

and they are powered by minovsky particles! uh basically: "The Minovsky particles are stored by E-cap (energy capacitor; a device that stores particles in a high-energy, pre-compressed state) in the hilt of the beam saber, which is recharged from the mobile suit's reactor when the saber is returned to its socket."

basically since the sabers never leave their sockets thanks to the wrist-mounted 'tonfa' design, they're always directly hooked up and charging, until it runs out of fuel. (and i don't know if it counts for anything, but as a tier 2 back in october, the minovsky particle was introduced to the setting in general.)

Questions!

[personal profile] buildyourworld 2014-02-17 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Gundam questions! TL;DR warning!

Okay, so I'm planning to echo Gundam Virtue with the Tier 2 Echo. My questions are:

1) Since Virtue is basically a 2-in-1 Gundam with Nadleeh build inside it, I will assume that he will not be able to use Nadleeh until he echoes the ability back. However, I will like to know if this counts as Item/Item Tier 2 or just Item/?? Tier 2 because;

2) I will like to echo back his knowledge to pilot the Gundam so it can be used to fight against Wise Snake or at least the knowledge to unlock the Gundam so he can get into it (and then echo the piloting knowledge with a canon recurrence echo). If this is not possible, I will figure out something else to do.

3) Virtue's basic armaments are 2 GN Canons (mount to each side of the shoulders), 2 GN Beam Sabers in each knee and a GN Bazooka. I'm pretty sure the canons and beam sabers will come along with the Tier 2 Echo but does he has to echo back the bazooka separately since it's not attached to the Gundam?

4) Virtue has an ability, the GN Field that is basically a force field/shield made of highly compressed GN Particles generated by the GN Drive (power core). Does this ability counts as part of it's default armament/ability? I understand if the density and time limit will be severely toned down and have to be regained in stages.

Just sliding in here because this may become relevant to my interests soon hopefully, crossing fingers, but as the defensive GN Field would have to be regained via later echoes, can I assume the ability of the GN-00 series Gundams to fly via GN Particles would be separate as well? I ASSUME so, but just to lay that out there... The GN Drives would just function to get the Gundams moving, and nothing further?

Thank you for answering my questions!

The GN Canons are mounted on the shoulders, he can't take them out unless he purges Virtue's armor when he activates Nadleeh. In this case, can it still be included?

In character, Asuka has no idea whether her mech will ever show up or not, and doesn't quite realize the *scale* of the thing or its limitations. After the battle, she's going to end up with a 100+ foot tall giant cyborg with drained batteries that will likely need large trucks to move, so she might just turn herself over to the government for the sheer sake of expediency.

If, however, she can get it transported off the battlefield and into, say, the Dead District or some other area that's going to be abandoned by the end of the Snake fight, she's perfectly willing to stick it in a warehouse and/or more or less bury it in rubble until she finagles the means to power it and move it somewhere more permanent. Underwater is a semi-feasible hiding place, though getting in and out should be a problem.

tl;dr if someone's willing to help her haul Eva 02 off she'll try hiding it in wreckage. If the Feds or the National Guard find it first, she'll just turn herself in and try fast-talking her way out of whatever legal trouble she's in.

Oh and with the exception of the other Eva kids (Shinji and Kaworu have canonically managed it in different ways and there's no real reason Rei couldn't), no one else should be able to control the Eva or get it to move because no one else should be able to interface with the control system. Won't stop the feds from hauling it off on a military flatbed, I'm sure.

Asuka's going to be just as wigged out.

So okay, failhiding. I guess Asuka's going public. The emotional component of getting back in her Eva will be enough to get her to cooperate with the Feds almost entirely as long as she gets to keep the robot, now that I think about it. More or less why she does anything whatsoever NERV orders her to in canon anyway.

OKAY THEN.

Now that all of my previous Gundam 00 questions are now relevant to me in full...

I've got some general questions and thoughts, so let me roll it all into one.

Neil is a former Army Ranger. He left due to injury in the Middle East, but he was still military. Is there any way for him to leverage that? He will throw down whatever credentials he's got handy, regardless, and try to get the Guard and FBI to at least listen to him for certain. He's going to see kids getting out of these other giant robots and go, "Whoa, hey. Let's calm the hell down and figure this out."

And not only now, but later - can those ties or the possibility of any former contacts in the Army help in the long run? Would it help or hinder the securing of giant effing robots to combat forthcoming threats? I expect the FBI would probably expect him to cooperate the same as Gerald - or anyone who WILL cooperate - though Neil isn't active.

Basically, does any of this help?

It was honorable, yes. Actual service record was basically spotless up until nearly getting his leg blown off.

And I was totally wondering about General Miller there, but you beat me to it~ I am actually quite good with all this and will definitely take anyone up on any planning in regards to all that. He's seen the FAQ and looked around for a few weeks; so he knows there's some fishy stuff there if all of this is legit, especially since if they're in the POLICE then the military is super obvious. So he won't be about to just hand the Gundams over and call it a day (leveraging that these machines are designed to be locked to their pilots) but will definitely try to see if he can shake out anyone trustworthy that might listen to him.

Sliding in last minute, I'm so sorry--short answer: at the moment I don't really have anywhere specific in mind!

For clarity, Yoko is getting back her helicopter-rabbit mecha, RH-03. I'm giving her back her Buddyroid in the farmhouse excursion, so it will have the ability to shift to a rabbit robot and back. Buster Machines (and Buddyroids) operate on an alternate energy source called Enetron, however, so until Jin or Cain figure out a way to produce more, RH-03 will run through a single charge, which I'll estimate will give around two hours of activity in this context before it becomes a problem.

Now, I know they're echoing back the bare minimum of their machine. The RH-03 is armed with a high-pressure fire hose and machine guns. Would these come loaded or will they be empty?

After the battle, however, is where I'm going to focus. RH-03 is primarily used to clear wreckage and assist in civilian evacuations: it's designed for use after giant monster attacks. That's not a tendency that's gone away through her reincarnation, so if Yoko were to, say, link up with the National Guard to see if they need any assistance, is she going to get directed to where to help out? She'll be cooperative.

As it stands, when she starts running out of Enetron she's going to tell the Guard (if she's helping them out) and leave over any protests. She definitely doesn't have any idea of where to take it, but somewhere with, um, open ground is likely. I'm coordinating with Jin's player, since a rich robotics engineer just kind of... owning a helicopter shaped like a bunny rabbit is weird but not entirely unlikely... and Jin is likely to put himself in the middle of any legal trouble nonetheless.

RH-03 only works on autopilot mode and can't be used in battle without Usada inside (and he won't be, after the battle, no matter where RH-03 winds up), just so we're all on the same page.

More questions, I'm SORRY

[personal profile] buildyourworld 2014-02-25 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, here goes.

So, I figure with the communication jamming going on and him having to tank magical flying girl's air spell battle, he's probably going to be too busy looking out for air casualty than to realize his Gundam jammed up communication until it's too late. I'll like to know what kinda consequence will this have later when the FBI and Guards get to him.

Also, he'll most likely not want to hand over Virtue because he'll want to be able to study it himself (and he doesn't trust law enforcers at this point with all the warning in the network). Will his credibility as Research Assistant at the Mech Engineering Dept in Locke University counts for anything? (He has an exemplary track records, scholarship holder & top achiever.) He's level headed enough that he won't antagonize anyone deliberately during questioning, if that helps?
buildyourworld: (What are you thinking?)

[personal profile] buildyourworld 2014-02-26 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Okay cool. He would most likely cooperate if only to keep himself (and other pilots) safe. How much freedom does he has with the research because Eugen will definitely try to conceal information from the FBI because he doesn't trust them with all the things he found out on the network. Will he be put in charge of the research or will the FBI assigned someone from their ranks to lead it?
