Plot post for April 20th!

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

Events occurring currently:

• Vermini are still crawling around within the Las Vegas Echo boundary. Non-reincarnates continue to fail to notice them. As with previous encounters, Vermini flee from reincarnates, and evaporate into steam when killed.

They appear to be attracted to bodies of water and large expansions of grass.

Events occurring in the immediate future:

• On April 22nd around 7:00am, employees of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino will find a dead body floating in the resort’s lazy river during their morning rounds before opening.

The victim is 25-year-old Frederick Abbott, a fresh graduate of Political Science from the University of Washington. He was vacationing with his family to celebrate his graduation and acceptance into police academy. He was shot through the heart at an unknown location and then brought to the river for employees to discover. A Heliconia clipping was found wedged in the cavity of the wound.

The case is being treated as a homicide. It will be headed by a local homicide detective.

Mandalay Beach will temporarily close as local police scour the area for anything else. It will reopen on the 25th.

L wants to know who the local homicide detective is, since he's currently investigating his own case involving the disappearance of a vacationing young man (Cesar's brother) on the coast in Greece. We're still waiting on finding out whether or not there can be some plot-related reason for the disappearance or if we need to stick to mundane reasons for it, but regardless, L will be super interested in seeing if there's a correlation and he'll probably try to contact the detective in charge of this case.

EDIT: Clarifying that L is investigating remotely (mostly through the internet) from Locke City, since I read it to myself after I posted and wasn't sure it was totally clear.

Would the majority of these details be reported on the news, such as the clipping found in the wound?

Further, Mandalay Bay has one of the exceptionally bigger bodies of water in the form of its Shark Reef Aquarium. While it could be nothing particularly vital, would one be more likely to find more Vermini than usual around that area?

...and perhaps a more frightening question then is, can Vermini SWIM?

Aye, the Mandalay Bay is a hot spot for the Vermini. Vermini can't swim. They walk on water, kind of like water striders.

...how much danger are the animals at the aquarium in that aren't exclusively underwater, then, to the Vermini? Re: the Golden Crocodiles, Burmese Python, or the Komodo Dragon?

Not very. The Vermini are basically insects to them; the animals won't give them any special attention unless, say, a whole swarm of Vermini bothered them.

Or infected them.

Two questions:

If you caught a Vermini in a glass jar and shoved it in the face of a normal person and said "LOOK AT THE LITTLE BLACK THING! LOOK AT IT!" Could they see it? (So put simply, is it that normals CAN'T see them or just that they DON'T see them?)

Is there anything at all to mark the murder as something other than a totally run of the mill homicide beside the plant clipping?

A normal person would see the Vermini! Most will assume it's some kind of bug.

From the murder itself, no. The murder location + Vermini gathering around large bodies of water are indicative of something odd afoot, though you'd need both pieces of information to connect the two.

WHAT YOU KNOW

The 25th is Julien's birthday! It's just got to be better than his last one. He'll have a kind of party in a park with a mill pond. There are some pavilion things there - structures with a roof, a concrete floor, one solid wall, and lots of picnic tables and grills. Jules will be there all day, just about, moving around. There's some catering going on but mostly he's asked people to make it a potluck.

There will be normal people there. He's got a lot of friends. It's... not explicitly open to the public, and he only clued in people he actually knows, but they may have spread the word from there. This has ended up being more complicated and hassle-y than he was hoping. Still, the idea is you get food, you hang out and talk and enjoy the nice weather.

His hope is that this is such an open setting with such a range of time that no one who comes to it as a non-open Numbers Club person will end up outed because of that. I'm handwaving that he makes a general open invite over the Network a day or two before it happens. In that he asks that people bring food/donate to Wise Snake recovery efforts instead of giving him presents (though if you want someone bringing him something, he won't say no). Hopefully there will be mingling!

Rescue Plotting

Such a nice, well-timed plot post. For those who might have shown interest or want to jump in on some shenanigans vs. Blood Keys and Albero's Mafia, we'll be arranging Reagan Quinn/Regene Regetta's rescue. There's a Blood Key on the inside who will leak the information to the network. If you don't have your Blood Key encounter plot echo, this is a chance to get it, but it's also dangerous. Reagan's SUV can hold a respectable seven to a clown car ten. You guys can always bring another car, but we'll be aiming to keep the number in the log on the manageable side so it gets finished quickly.
