Plot Post for May 24th!
This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.
The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.
• Vermini activity is persisting in Las Vegas, with swarms continuing to make appearances and harass or attack reincarnates either as they are or by infecting animals. Such encounters require sign-ups - and we have two more slots open! If your character will be in Las Vegas after the first of June and they haven't nabbed an encounter yet, feel free to sign them up here.
LOCKE CITY, NJ
• On May 31st, at approximately 4:00 in the afternoon, trouble will be tearing its way down urban streets and leaving tire tracks and the smells of burning rubber and gas in its wake: an animated hot rod monster.
It'll be screeching and tearing its way down the streets as if it's broken out on the loose - extremely fast and evasive, but anything but careful. The car monster will go speeding down the sidewalks or briefly riding walls if it can't navigate and/or ram along occupied roads, and will cause significant property damage as well as civilian injuries - with two casualties, one of them numbered high-schooler Kaworu Nagisa (
shouldertheburden).
Charming resident alien Geoff Benwick will be in hot aerial pursuit - and he'll take reincarnates' help in incapacitating the monster! We will be opening five signup slots for a fight/takedown thread - picks will be made official May 29th, and priority selection will be given to characters who can take down the monster with something other than supernatural brute-force firepower. Please sign up your character to be in position under the appropriate header below the post with a quick explanation of how they'll try to take it down.
Geoff won't be stealing characters' thunder - he won't be fighting so much as using his aerial perspective to guide the takedown.
• After the takedown, as an offer of friendship and gesture of gratitude for saving the situation, Geoff will tell those at the fray to spread the word that he'll be spending his afternoons around City Hall from June 1st through June 4th in hopes of meeting and getting acquainted with some more of Locke's "unusual" residents; he'll be willing to talk with any Numbered who passes by about whatever they'd like. An open log will go up on the 1st for anyone who'd like to thread a rendezvous. Edit: When asked in person, Geoff will offer a phone number that can be freely shared between reincarnates. He will accept phone calls in lieu of physical meetings up until the 4th. After the 4th, the number will no longer work.
LAS VEGAS, NV
• Another body will be discovered on June 5th, this time at 7:00 A.M., floating on a gondola in the Venetian Resort's Grand Canal. The victim is 28-year-old Thomas Lowry, an online entrepreneur visiting from Colorado for an affiliates' meeting. He will be found shot through the heart with a small round mirror, such as from a compact, embedded in the gunshot wound. The gondola will have been bent in the middle and roughly cut along the edges to resemble a lobster's claw.
After this, a local urban legend telling of a mysterious lobster monster living in the waters of Las Vegas will begin gaining public momentum, attracting groupies of all sorts who are very interested in this concept. One or two of these groupies will be spouting somewhat religious rhetoric, but this will not yet be the norm for the entire group, which will consist mostly of smaller gatherings of interested parties. These people will currently be seen mostly by bodies of water.
• Depending on how much ground PCs cover on their own the week after the car monster incident, Geoff may have a favor to ask of the Numbers Club. The status of the matter will be settled by June 8th - the date of the month's first plot post.
• In Las Vegas, in-passing Vermini encounters (which you are free to assume as you please) will still grant one plot Echo each to characters who have not encountered a Vermini in Las Vegas before!
• A first-time swarm or infected animal encounter will also grant one plot Echo. A character need only be involved in an encounter to receive an Echo - they do not need to be the target! If this renders your character eligible for two Vermini-related Vegas Echoes and you've only put in for one, it is never too late to collect.
• Any character who comes close to the car monster in Locke City on the 31st of May will receive one plot Echo. All they need to qualify is to be feasibly out on an urban street after four.
• Speaking to Geoff Benwick in person for the first time will also grant one plot Echo per character.
Please direct questions regarding these plot points to the thread below and not the post in general.
The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

Anthony is, however, finally moving toward biting the bullet and starting to go outside again between realizing that solitude is capable of literally driving him insane and losing a number of network friends. He's not exactly willing or able to head out alone - at the very least not yet - and so plans for a possibly-somewhat-awkward friendly outing on the 31st to wind up interrupted would be a first-class delight.
Bill will also be grabbing a proximity Echo from the car monster, and he's going to be interested in wherever the heck it came from - to begin with, he'll be keeping up with Numbers-relevant activity on the network, including what the situation is with Geoff, but if anyone actually intends to go questing or searching for something, he'll throw in his hat.
Steve's also going to be out to net an Echo, and it's going to convert him to physically/biologically-manifested data - not any visible or instantly-useful effect, to his annoyance, though the next Echo of his to be gunned for will be the Night of Fire attack. He might spectate any actual headway or anything sufficiently impressive-looking anyone might be able to toss at the hot rod - if he isn't close enough that he'll need to be snatched out of the way - and shall for the indefinite future afterward be actively looking for trouble. After all, that is how you get Echoes.

Also if Nick suggested it, would Anthony be interested in opening up their sword lessons for other reincarnates, maybe every other week or once a week or so?
no subject
As for the second suggestion, Anthony would anything but object, but how much he'd assume he'd have the right to be personally-involved depends! Would it primarily focus on blind-fighting?
no subject
It would, yes! I think Nick'd probably run a few ideas by him, like maybe dividing up whoever wants in into two groups and having Nick mostly do more basic self-defense and Anthony cover those who already know the basics and want to do blind-fighting, and/or possibly making it a kind of free-for-all where everyone can just spar and exchange pointers.
...also it just now occurred to me, but Nick's been going out of town with Lyall partially to make some memories that aren't as influenced by the network, so they'll still have some basis for a relationship even if one or both of them loses their echoes. I think Nick'll want to start trying that with the rest of his friends, too, especially with Anthony.

And the approval shall surely be appreciated.

Plus, Torin will still try to mentor at Steve because clearly he needs it.
