Plot post for December 14th

PLOTTING POST

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

General/OOC notes:
• As noted below, there will be a Fourth Wall this round. Tell yo friends!

Events that occurred recently or are occurring currently:

• Media: The media in most of the world are unchanged: Between neutral and positive. The media in Las Vegas and the US as a whole have seen a huge shift, though: Since word has gotten out about the mafia's dealings in the city and the general corruption, pity with the numbered victims of such discrimination has risen, but people are also concerned about the violent counteractions. The public is starting to see the numbered as two groups: Victims of the situation who try to resolve things peacefully that it sees positively, and violent numbered that it sees negatively - though there are few numbered that they have slotted into either category. In Locke City, the situation is less clear, but things are shifting heavily; nobody is reporting on much yet because the political and power situation is so unclear right now that nobody knows how to step right or wrong, and what will endanger whom, but the negative reporting on the numbered has ceased and reporters are starting to gather material for when they will be able to air it. Some are sending such material to affiliated outlets outside of the city who can air it; one such person on the outside is Sophia Grace Turner.

Locke City

• The mafia's smear campaign and attacks continued, yet the numbered also continued to do their best to counteract them, through the media but also more and more through violence. Among other happenings, this included a successfully thwarted attack on the Espresso Yourself.

• A good number of reincarnates attacked a mafia meeting that many higher up mafia members attended, among them Albero. Though some collateral damage and many casualties (on the mafia side, including a goon that looked familiar) made the attack a very violent PR disaster, the numbered succeeded in their main objective: Killing Albero.

Following this, there were five days of eerie quiet over the city; though everything seemed to work as normal, everyone who is connected to the mafia (including the many businesses that had paid "protection fees") remained in a state of panicked shock, while behind the scenes people were scrambling to figure out what to do with the sudden immense vacuum of power.

Las Vegas

• The mountain colony now has all modern conveniences.

Neuschwanstein Area

• Lily (

alilyinthemoonlight) informed the network about encountering Geoff and Badri on top of the Orbital Tower.

• A monster was on the loose and got taken care of by the numbered.

Events occurring in the immediate future:

• The information which was given to the media by Nick/Lyall and Saretha will soon resurface.

• On the 28th of December, Saretha (

purestambition) and two other, as of yet unnamed, numbered persons will meet up with the US Secretary of Defense.

• FOURTH WALL! As per popular vote, this will happen between the 2nd and 5th of January.

Locke City

• The tense calm will suddenly collapse on the 14th of December and make way to open warfare in the streets. It's not a constant issue, but the streets won't be safe anymore due to a number of the groups that wish to replace Albero or at least get some of his power fight each other through assassinations and open shootings. A number of unrelated people will use this violence for looting and unrelated criminal actions. Police and FBI will both show a lot of presence in an attempt to combat this, but to little avail, as too many groups are involved.

This will last until the 17th, when the mayor of Locke City will declare the city to be in a state of war and request help from the military stationed at Fort Turner. Following this, the military under Terrence Miller will move into the city. For the residents, this will mean two things: An end of the violence in the streets; heavy military presence everywhere, though they for the most part are only present - there are raids, yet they are very firmly aimed at hides of Albero ....and, strangely enough, Thunder Corp property; a curfew that disallows everyone from being outside in the streets between sunset and sunrise. The curfew will be lifted between the 24th and the 26th.

• On the 18th of December, there will be the annual Christmas charity run in Locke. Characters will be aware of this happening or not having been heavily disputed, considering the general situation, yet that the spirit of "we'll not give in to violence" having prevailed. Local businesses will donate a set amount for every participant, so showing up there might not be bad PR...

Neuschwanstein Area

• The third and uppermost level of the Orbital Tower is now free for all numbered to check it out. If they do so, they will find four gundams parked there along with maintenance and military facilities and storage and surveillance rooms.

• The wolpertinger have ceased being scared, but they seem to carefully keep away from the castle.

Lapland and Christmas Island

• On the 24th, a pink light will go up over the entirety of Finnish Lapland. Very soon after this, David Graibiger and Monika Hallbach will call all members of the Numbered Special Comission Group for a trip there to check out a few things. (Sign ups for this group are still open!)

• On the 25th, a pink light will go up over an Australian territory near Indonesia: Christmas Island. For the moment, that is everything that will happen there: It's nothing but a tropical paradise! Just that some of the people who go there... well.

The thing is, there is something in the woods there that will give people that by accident come into contact with it odd behavioural patterns or habits. If your character goes there and you would like them to be impacted by this, please either comment to the general questions thread, pp Kira-mod or request an oddity on the mod contact post. None of the changes will be dangerous or even particularly dark, unless the player specifically wishes for it; they're mostly going to be strange or silly.

[edit:] And there's the crab migration going on! Clearly you've not seen enough of these in Vegas?

• [edit:] The Pink Lights all look a bit like aurorae borealis. While the one over Locke only lasted for 4 seconds, they have grown longer since; the one over Lapland lasts for almost an hour (it differs from a normal aurora by it's size - covering all of Lapland and being visible over its entirety, statically, for the whole time - and the pink colour) and the one over Christmas Island a bit over an hour.

Events potentially occurring in the immediate future:

Neuschwanstein Area

• Weird things are happening in Neuschwanstein Castle, and the mayor of Füssen would like the numbered to check this out. She will let the network know about this through one of her contacts sometimes soon.

Potential Echo Opportunities

• Encountering a ghost-like presence, a Vermini, a Vermedi, a Vermaxi, a wolpertinger, or a ghost wolpertinger for the first time grants one plot echo each.
• Using the teleporter for the first time will grant one plot echo.
• Seeing the pink light over the Christmas Island or Lapland grants one tier 2 plot echo each. It suffices if the light is seen on TV, as long as it happens reasonably close to the time of them going up and the person is within an existing echo boundary at the time.

SO YEAH, Saretha being contacted by the Secretary of Defense ~~via secretary Amy~~ is a thing that happened, and she will be putting out an IC post sometime within the next week to that effect.

However!

This does mean she is seeking two Numbered folks to accompany her. This probably won't be quite "first come, first serve" and weigh a little bit on Saretha's nature. She's going to lean towards people she (not necessarily I) views as the more rational or logical types to come with her. Which I'm totally willing to discuss in advance! So feel free to poke me here or on Plurk

mugennoken (feel free to friend me if you haven't already!) for hashing out what would work best!

Already mentioned this on plurk, but responding here too to make it more official! If Saretha would indeed find him a logical/rational choice to take along, and values a different perspective from her own, I'm extremely happy to offer him up as a potential accompanying Numbered.

How publicly known will Miller's involvement in the military intervention be?

The Numbered SHOULD recognize him from way - way, way - way back when they got a front row seat to a murder at the start of the game, yes?

It won't be announced, most people will just know that "the military" is moving in. But everyone who knows that he's still there and can count two and two together will probably at least be able to reasonably assume that he's involved.

While Shou had a violent reaction the last time the mob came on their radar via the info on Alberto, Shou is still of mind that violence is an option after most things fail. He also has international ties to a couple political/businesses that might prove useful so he could tag along if she needs another rational head. He just is limited to night time or enclosed spaces due to his allergy.

Hmm... I could have Julien turn into a bird on the 25th. Possibly at the Thorssons. It would be the worst christmas ever. I'd want to play things out.

I really like playing his harpy form, but I want him to have been a bird for at least a couple months before endgame.

Okay, so, for those two Tier 2 plot Echoes, I think now's a fine time for Torin to be getting back Bragigas, his Voltasaur partner. Bragigas is large enough to hold the Kyoryugers' secret base and then some, so even if his size is scaled back, he'd still probably end up being on the large, noticeable side.

My question is: how is the military going to react to a gigantic robot brachiosaur showing up around Espresso Yourself? (Or a bus-sized one, because I'm considering doing his full size as another echo at a later date.) Also, I figured giant robots possibly coming into play do warrant poking at the mods, so...

Lyall is available for this. He wants to make up for losing his wolfy mind while trying to protect his boyfriend, by doing something calm and intelligent ;.;

so question; if someone attempts to try and combat and curb the violence that's going on, will they be seen as part of the problem by the powers that be or not?

They will be seen as a party in the gang warfare and thus be considered a part of the problem, yes. It's different if they're just standing their ground in the most narrow of senses, so if they're directly protecting themselves or someone else, but as soon as they go out and get in on the fighting, the powers that be will figure that they want a part of the cake.

How sentient/alive is Bragigas? Like, on a scale from Gundam to C-3PO, where does he stand?

That would be acceptable, as long as the person keeps it clear that that's what they are doing and doesn't get too involved (it's a public opinion issue, don't become too much of a hero or people will wonder at your motivation etc - but protecting a handful of people/people is definitely not going to be a problem with the powers that be)

Note: If they protect a business that happened to be paying protection fees to Albero before, the shop owner will be worried that they just swapped protection fee recipient and approach the protector about modalities. In case you want to play with that, just assume that the shop/store/business in question is one of those.

He's basically a dinosaur heart in a giant robot body. He can understand and hold a conversation, though he only roars and cannot actually speak. (Torin has echoed back the ability to understand dinosaurs.) He has no real canon personality to speak of; there's appropriate roaring and responding where needed, as well as plot-relevant crying. He's got more soul than a Gundam would, but he is nowhere near as much of a personality as C3P-0 would be.

There are two options:
1. The military gets its hands on the Bragigas first. They'll confiscate it and not return it, so Torin would have to stage an action to steal it back from them or try legal action, but that would take a good long while.
2. He gets the Bragigas to the FBI or to a different echo location before the military can get to it. If it stays in the US, the FBI will offer what they did with the gundams: A place to keep them and that Torin may work with it, as long as that happens within the confines of FBI authority and orders.

...there is an option 3. where the Bragigas scares some soldiers and they open fire, but that would definitely become messy, so I'm not sure if you'd want that.

Ah, cool, cool, I'll be angling for the second option, then. o7 I figure he'll probably end up posting to the network asking for a little help with his not-so-little friend when the time comes, and hopefully someone can put him in contact with the FBI.

I don't think I'm going for the third option in order to avoid the mess, even if the idea of the military freaking out over a big robot dinosaur sitting there all "Friends? 8(" and shrugging off normal gunfire makes me laugh. (Not his fault he only roars! And is a giant robot dinosaur!)

Would it be reasonable for Stefan to assist with the Christmas charity run as an organizer / intern for the organizers? While he's not Christian, he works with the interfaith group in Locke, and it wouldn't be a stretch for him to assist with the prep work and/or the run the day of the event.

So Stefan's assisting with the annual Christmas Charity Run as an organizer this year! (He may also call it the Internship from Hell, considering how they've run him ragged - literally - despite him attending classes nearly an hour away.)

If your characters want to show up, either as a participant or a volunteer under him, Stefan would more than appreciate the help. :D He'll also make sure that normal civilians and/or the media don't chase Numbered off, considering that his status as a Numbered isn't public knowledge yet. I'll be out of town for two weeks starting from the 20th, so I'll be slow to respond on threads and stuff, but if anyone's interested in threading prep work / Numbered showing up in support of the run / etc., I would be so game for it.

Maybe so! But really, right now, the whole working with the FBI stuff sounds good...even if Torin will have a bunch of awkward legal questions about the rights of a sentient bird with no birth certificate or identity papers or anything. 8D

Robyn will develop the habit of trying to sneak up on other people when they talk to someone and let rose petals rain down on them (throw them at them). She'll also start to carry a small bow and tiny arrows with herself - basically styling herself as Cupid trying to set up everyone with everyone. As this is only a habit, not a conscious attempt to set up people, she'll only notice what she is doing at first, without an explanation to it and without a reason for her actions that she could give. She'll just find herself doing them (You are free to expand on this, like having her carry around romantic violin music or something similar.)

So, an oddity for Emi?

She will start counting things. Everything. Physically, as one finger up going from piece to piece as she counts. It's not constant, but often enough - things like standing in front of a person with freckles and having her finger up in the air to count how many freckles there are, things like that.

She won't be able to stop this herself once it has started, but if someone/something interrupts her (like drags her away or whatever she is counting leaves) she won't feel the urge to continue or get lasting damage from it. But she can now be stopped by a building with many windows or, yes, by someone emptying out a bag of uncooked rice in front of her.

Hmmm, let's see some oddities for Danny and Jovan, perhaps?

Jovan will do cutsey anime girl gestures. Not all the time, but frequently.

Danny will feel the urge to rattle all chains that he comes by, thoroughly - and if they are loose, he might wish to take them with him to rattle them some more. And sometimes make stereotypical ghost sounds while doing so.

If either of these does not work and you'd rather have something else, please say so.

She'll start to draw little rainbows on everything and everyone. Yes, everyone. It's not a constant thing, but she'll find herself having drawn a rainbow on a willing (or unwilling) surface every so often without being able to explain how it got there, or why she is carrying those copics/crayons/whatever around with herself yet again.

Sounds good to me! Stefan'd appreciate any kind of help, though as to what would depend on Emi (helping man water stations, running booths, god there's endless possibilities at this kind of event).

She'll find herself finishing longer (as in, not one-sentence) pieces of speech with "Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam". If she knows the translation/finds out what the translation is, she will now find herself either still quoting the Latin original, or the translation of it into any other language that she knows.
