saveyourselves | Plot Post for September 17th!

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that I will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

Events occurring currently;

• As of mid-September, the Locke City water supply is clean! It’ll read as back to its previous normal by any analysis or enhanced senses, and no more several-hour giggle fits after consumption. This means as well that drinking tap water will no longer induce Echoes.

• Public unease and scrutiny of Thunder Corp. is high with the rumors leaked to the media having hit mainstream awareness, as result of the operation headed by Riku Nakatsuki (

depolarized) and Nick Burkhardt (

detectivetroll). Thunder Corp., of course, are persistently denying everything - while those with connections in the company may also hear that they plan to get to the bottom of just who could be trying to sabotage their reputation.

Events occurring in the immediate future;

• Thunder Corp. will be holding a press conference to address the allegations of environmental irresponsibility by the company - in short, they deny everything. The information is fudged, the images are fake, and they have no idea who is responsible or what provoked them.

• On the evening of September 21st, the pink lights in the sky will appear again - accompanied by - what d’you know! - a low buzzing sound in the heads of PCs who see it, very much like that sensed by those who ventured into the lower regions of the mines on the trip organized by Kanti Singh (

vetala). Look away from the lights and the sound will fade to nothing. The lights will not appear the next day.

The buzzing, however, isn’t going anywhere - in fact, it’s still there without looking at the lights, much too faint to be detected without actively focusing, and will intensify over the rest of September and into October. The intensity also depends on the listener’s location - the buzzing grows louder and stronger as you approach Tuning Towers (see the Locations post). Once you arrive at the Towers themselves, in addition to the buzzing you’re likely to sense tremors in the ground below you - which isn’t actually shaking, or otherwise eliciting a reaction from the non-numbered around.

• By next week, there will be periodic and brief cases of civilians within small public areas (coffee shops, mall stores, parks, etc.) going simultaneously... out of it. Catch a non-Numbers Club acquaintance in conversation when they’re hit and they’ll suddenly go much more relaxed, zoned-out, and docile. Take the chance while you can to get a loan - it’ll only last about five minutes before they rise back up to their senses.

Depending on the company you keep, however, you might notice that whatever phenomenon is acting up when it does will have little to no effect on those who steer clear of tap water.

Events potentially occurring;

• The police have been on their guard and taking their notes since late July, and Thunder Corp. don’t intend to let the drawing of suspicion to them pass. PCs will be at risk of investigation and/or arrest in the near future.

Potential Echo Opportunities:

• Witnessing the lights in the sky will - as it has in the past - grant one Echo. In the days afterward until further notice otherwise, picking up on and following the buzzing sound to their strongest point - right at Tuning Towers - will grant an additional Echo.
• Following the appearance of the lights on September 21st, some reincarnates may find that their Echoes are getting... stronger. OOCly, we're now allowing Tier 2 Echoes, as reflected on the Echoes request page- essentially two (connected) Echoes in one, once a month per character.

Alex will see the lights and follow the buzzing sound! I haven't decided on an Echo yet, but it will probably be a physical one, and most likely something harder to hide/control than the tail.

I'm kind of assuming the combat training he talked to people about is being handwaved, but if anyone wants to log it, let me know!

Alex's parents have been keeping a closer eye on him lately, and he's grounded for the next week or so, but he's decided numbers club stuff is more important than following the rules. Which means he'll get in even more trouble later on when he inevitably gets caught sneaking out.

I'd like more teenage shenanigans for him, and I'm up for just about anything plot-wise, so hit me up!

Somebody say shenanigans? ~~Bakura needs to teach him how to make good coverstories to avoid getting in trouble~~~

I find the idea of Bakura teaching Alex how to be a bad kid so amusing. XD

Poor Alex! If you want to eventually give him an excuse to be out and about, Nick might be able to come up with some kind of cover for him - maybe an internship or ride-along program with the police, or something, although I don't know if that'll make his parents worry less.

ALSO I'm usually not the most awesome with threading sparring out, but since they're using Monroe's backyard, if the Monroe player's up for it, maybe a log with the three of them?

Oooh, that's a really good idea. Not only is Ax a boy-scout type who'd be really into that, Alex's parents would like the idea of him interning with law enforcement. (Looks good on college transcripts, doncha know.)

I always feel bad at fight/sparring scenes, but I'd be up for the three of them hanging out!

Awesome! :D We should totally do that, then, Nick has no problem reassuring his parents, and can likely figure something out at the station to make it somewhat official!

Ahh, yes, that'd be perfect! I'll bug her in her plot post.

Horrible disaster sounds good! >D If there were some sort of gas leak/explosion/Vermedi infestation in the basement, that might even get Alex an echo.

A+. Tessa's echoing back holy water, so expect that to be thrown like it does something.

Hmmm. Wasn't there a book where Ax got some weird Andalite illness?

Julien's going to get a peculiar future-disease while following the buzzing, do you want him and Alex to meet on the way looking? Alex doesn't have to be close enough to get sneezed on and go with him to quarantine.

Looks like Banagher and other-Alex will also be involved, and Bakura will be finding a place in the Dead District to wait it out/find out that it's not going to kill humans. That okay?

Sure! Now that I think about it, having to go to quarantine would be an excellent excuse for triggering that echo, because Ax was cooped up in Cassie's barn when he was sick.

Is he gonna get the Andalite flu that requires brain surgery? That was grosssss.

Cool, cool! Since other-Alex is driving I think it'd be good if some characters were with him at the start and one or two others are encountered on the way and hitchhike. You want Ax-Alex there?

Yeah, but since he's mostly human, it'll probably just be a violent case of the flu and some terrible memories/hallucinations.

And sure, Ax-Alex can be there!

Cool. Poor Ax! Is it going to be passed around like that was, or does spreading that require a full Andalite?

I think he'd have to be fully Andalite-y to spread it.

If nothing else, Marisa could offer tips on sneaking off while grounded. She does get grounded occasionally, after all.
