Plot Post for September 17th!

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that I will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

Events occurring currently;

• As of mid-September, the Locke City water supply is clean! It’ll read as back to its previous normal by any analysis or enhanced senses, and no more several-hour giggle fits after consumption. This means as well that drinking tap water will no longer induce Echoes.

• Public unease and scrutiny of Thunder Corp. is high with the rumors leaked to the media having hit mainstream awareness, as result of the operation headed by Riku Nakatsuki ([personal profile] depolarized) and Nick Burkhardt ([personal profile] detectivetroll). Thunder Corp., of course, are persistently denying everything - while those with connections in the company may also hear that they plan to get to the bottom of just who could be trying to sabotage their reputation.

Events occurring in the immediate future;

• Thunder Corp. will be holding a press conference to address the allegations of environmental irresponsibility by the company - in short, they deny everything. The information is fudged, the images are fake, and they have no idea who is responsible or what provoked them.

• On the evening of September 21st, the pink lights in the sky will appear again - accompanied by - what d’you know! - a low buzzing sound in the heads of PCs who see it, very much like that sensed by those who ventured into the lower regions of the mines on the trip organized by Kanti Singh ([personal profile] vetala). Look away from the lights and the sound will fade to nothing. The lights will not appear the next day.

The buzzing, however, isn’t going anywhere - in fact, it’s still there without looking at the lights, much too faint to be detected without actively focusing, and will intensify over the rest of September and into October. The intensity also depends on the listener’s location - the buzzing grows louder and stronger as you approach Tuning Towers (see the Locations post). Once you arrive at the Towers themselves, in addition to the buzzing you’re likely to sense tremors in the ground below you - which isn’t actually shaking, or otherwise eliciting a reaction from the non-numbered around.

• By next week, there will be periodic and brief cases of civilians within small public areas (coffee shops, mall stores, parks, etc.) going simultaneously... out of it. Catch a non-Numbers Club acquaintance in conversation when they’re hit and they’ll suddenly go much more relaxed, zoned-out, and docile. Take the chance while you can to get a loan - it’ll only last about five minutes before they rise back up to their senses.

Depending on the company you keep, however, you might notice that whatever phenomenon is acting up when it does will have little to no effect on those who steer clear of tap water.

Events potentially occurring;

• The police have been on their guard and taking their notes since late July, and Thunder Corp. don’t intend to let the drawing of suspicion to them pass. PCs will be at risk of investigation and/or arrest in the near future.

Potential Echo Opportunities:

• Witnessing the lights in the sky will - as it has in the past - grant one Echo. In the days afterward until further notice otherwise, picking up on and following the buzzing sound to their strongest point - right at Tuning Towers - will grant an additional Echo.
• Following the appearance of the lights on September 21st, some reincarnates may find that their Echoes are getting... stronger. OOCly, we're now allowing Tier 2 Echoes, as reflected on the Echoes request page- essentially two (connected) Echoes in one, once a month per character.

ALSO someone who goes with him towards the vibrations might get sneezed on and also go to quarantine for a while. Or they could stay far enough away to not be. I'd just like someone in on that so it'll be a log!

I might be down for that with Alex! What might being sneezed on entail, besides getting the virus? How long would quarantine last?

It doesn't affect human types! They might be able to carry it and pass it on to birds, maybe, but I don't think there'd be any symptoms. As for how long... idk! If Mordin can study the disease and quickly learn that it doesn't hurt humans probably just a day or so. I'm not sure about quarantine procedures otherwise.

WOW that was a total brain fart on my end, whoops.

Viruses usually have an incubation period where there are little to no symptoms. How quickly will the symptoms show up in Julien? Alex isn't a good indicator of whether the virus is zoonotic or not because he's not... really human anymore. HE IS but he isn't = unreliable sample. I'd guess standard procedure would be inoculating a person with the virus to see if does cross species?

It happens!

I figure instantly, like it's skipped the early stages and gone almost immediately to being everywhere. We're never given much detail on Carneades, but the children of birds who survived being infected grew smarter and larger than their parents, and later generations were even more different. Over a century after it was released there are still non-sentient bird species starting to change.

We're not outright told that that's the virus's doing, but I tend to assume that it is, and that all surviving birds still carry the virus. It just doesn't hurt them. Julien would be sick then because his body would go "WHOAH wtf big virus load" but he'd adjust and get better. Does that make sense? I only know so much about this topic.

The virus he thinks this is killed 85% of the human population. |D He reaally doesn't want it spread around, but it's not like he could really stop someone.

Yeah, it makes sense! I will wait on infos from what Mordin can find from the virus then. Barring a situation in which Alex has to be quarantined for like a week, I'm game \o/

Someone can throw a pack of cards through a busted window for them to pass the time with.
