 Heeeey, StE-ers, who wants to talk about how the mafia has gotten info on over a dozen Numbered over the past seven weeks? I sure do. Let's talk consequences!

 

This here will be a plotting and questions post for things happening over the next two weeks: do you want the mafia to strike at your character in any way? They could do anything from just trying to scare them to trying to ruin their livelihood. They could even do nothing at all, and just bide their time until later! (Everything here is totally optional.)

 

Meanwhile, how did the mafia know any of this? That there sure is a mystery. Someone from the Network must have leaked! Here's the place to plot possible investigations and ask questions.

i may have said this before(?), but while i'd prefer the mafia avoid the clinic for now, i am totally down for them sending anyone out to vegas to try and fuck mordin up if they want to.

Oh, yes! You've mentioned this. Considering that the mafia plucked Moisés from Greece, there's got to be something we can do with Vegas.

Got any particular ideas? Ones that come to mind are him having his living areas torn apart, and or a possible actual attack on his person.

For anyone curious, here's a total of all the names that have been leaked, along with a breakdown of what exact things have been given.

I sent a few of these names out in a large package during this past week, and I've been slowly going and notifying everyone whether or not their info was given. If you see your name on here but I haven't messaged you yet, sorry for having been late!

Weekly Breakdown of specifics:

May 1: There's a man called Mordin Solus that works as a doctor. He says he can make medicine that accelerates healing beyond what current pharmaceuticals are capable of. Someone called 'L' owns a new coffee shop in Locke. Has shown signs of powers related to investigation, and he sounds like a young man. Misato Katsuragi. A young woman, has echoed back the existence of a penguin.

May 7: There's a new man called Richard Stroude. Cesar doesn't know what his powers will be, and neither does the man.
There is a man by the first name 'Shou' who is extremely wealthy. Cesar doesn't know his last name.

May 14: There is a man called Anthony, possibly homeless, and knows Richard Stroude. Was a swordsman in a past life. Cesar will give Shou's last name and mention that he's having huge difficulty obtaining personal information because people are cautious.

Wednesday May 21st: Alexander Mercure (name, occupation as a magician in Las Vegas) and Benjamin Ratchet (name, occupation as a professor)

Wednesday May 28th: Alexander York (has had significant memories of past self), and Bill (old, was able to fight in his past life)

Wednesday June 4: Xander (first name), Fred Vadenberg (Name, and general location within the city. Fred actually posted his address somewhere, but Cesar won't relay it as he found it.)

Wednesday June 11: Kara (first name, has powers that let her manipulate green energy fields), Arthur Curry (claims to be former king of atlantis)

Wednesday June 18: Arlene (first name, sex and general age), Rachel Roth (name, occupation as a writer, age 26)

A-ahah, yeah, a first name and nothing else really isn't much info... Somehow I thought there'd been more. We can definitely have more come out this coming Wednesday, though, like a general idea of where he lives, and what kinds of powers he has!

Hmmm. Well, Arthur has like, nobody close to him in his normal life relationship-wise. I'm cool with the mafia flat out trying to kidnap him or hurt him, but it wouldn't go well for them at all!

Awesome! I'm coordinating with the mods to figure out what kind of freedom we have iwth all this, but I'll keep you updated and get back to you on all this as soon as possible.

Edit: Okay, I now know a little more about what the mafia is looking to be doing. They might not kidnap him, but they're definitely looking to wreck his personal property with some low-ish level damage, so long as that would be bad enough to send a clear statement. If Arthur doesn't own anything really impressive enough for that, then the mafia might then aim to rough him up.

Espresso Yourself and Stuff With L- Plotting!

L's got a couple of things working against him here. His was one of the names leaked... and he was the detective who tried to take Cesar's missing brother's case. Like a bad dog, he refuses to drop it. This will, and should, bite him, because no one is that freaking lucky.

In the immediate future, this means that Espresso Yourself, the coffee shop he purchased from the original owners after Wise Snake and reopened for the purpose of hiring and lodging numbered people (philanthropy!), is gonna get trashed by the Mafia.

I am OK with
-vandalism
-moderate fire damage
-complete destruction of the expensive espresso machine
-partial destruction of the mural Solana painted, which is probably the only piece of artwork that's ever genuinely touched L
-attack/injury/fighting on the premises

The following would be really helpful to know; I don't control the Mafia in this game so it's not on me, but since L's business boards employees who need a place to sleep, it's possible that even an attack late at night during closed, quiet hours would result in encounters with the Mafia. So this is really tentative, but--!

What I need to know from employees and patrons of this coffee shop
-Do you sleep in the apartment upstairs due to homelessness or other reasons?
-Do you want to be on the premises during the attack, as a customer, worker, etc?
-Would you want to engage in fighting with the Mafia?
-Would you prefer to flee from the Mafia?
-Would you be willing to use your strength or powers to get your employer (L) out of a tight spot?
-Would you need your employer (L) to get you out of a tight spot?
-Would you out your employer (L) as the guy who owns the place to an interested party, wittingly or unwittingly to a member of the Mafia?
-Would you out your employer (L) as the owner of the coffee shop, even if he was blatantly claiming to be a barista who should have had the day off within earshot?

Misato has actually frequented Espresso Yourself since its opening (I currently have a log with her and Ace/Vash there going on now!). There's a good chance L has seen her there a few times, so we should probably establish some CR at some point!

If Misato were stuck in Espresso Yourself during a mafia attack, she'd beeline it for the door -- but not before trying to get other people (read: people with no powers or kids) out of harm's way. She might not have superpowers, but she's not entirely heartless, either. And fighting? No way! She definitely knows her limits.

Oh, I wouldn't mind tossing in Alexi on the premises during the attack. He's got some fighting skills so he could actually DO stuff. And yeah, he'd be willing to protect L. Alexi wouldn't purposely out L, but he can also be hella dumb depending how the mafia presented themselves.

I'd prefer that Fred's family be left alone; I don't believe they even know the mafia has anything to do with the Network, and they're certainly not prepared for them. On the other hand, if they don't have any kind of physical description and the name's about all they can go from, I imagine the house would be the easiest thing for them to find next. Hm.

My inclination would be to have some kind of altercation while he's in his Feldspar outfit (mask, cape, ponytail), as he's more inclined to use his full abilities then. I don't believe he's Networked any video or image of his mask, but the cape's definitely been shown; perhaps something about it could be retconned into the info package? Or maybe you've got other ideas? I mean, I see that "do nothing for now" is specifically listed up there, but as I said before I'd like some consequences for his being so free with information on the Network.

All of these ideas are very doable. (I'm running on three hours of sleep right now,so for the time being I'm going to leave it at that and plan to get back to you on this tomorrow and brainstorm more!)

(I see this question and I'm relaying it to the mods for an answer! I kind of have to admit, I've been making a few assumptions up until now, but I'd rather have an actual answer than be handing out guesses.)

So, Shou. Will probably already be a name that has popped up thanks to his dealings among the Japanese mob in Tokyo Town. He's known by them and so far, has been proven to not talk about it. He also has a few contacts with in the mob, usually using the name 'Shobiz' basically because he does dress flashy and he does have a lot of money. Usually he nudges people to meet with reputable dealers among his social circle, but also plays cards and dice with the locals when he isn't buying/trading with them.

I'm not too sure how the mafia (mods) will handle him, but I do know that if any of his family is touched, his temper will boil over and he won't take it easy. I think that given his involvement with over groups, they may want to just watch him or try to coax him fully to the dark side? He does have a lot of knowledge concerning business.

The mafia's MO right now seems to be focusing on low level property damage. They'd escalate to roughing people up if it looked like property alone would be too puny to send a message, but considering Shou, I think that he probably would have more than enough fancy things for them to wreck. Right now the mafia has an issue with the Numbered being hero-type people, but I honestly don't know where Shou would be on this scale. I know that the mafia's response to Cesar leaking info about Shou was to be interested, but secretive enough about this interest that they never asked directly about him.

We should totes talk with the mods about it if we want to do the 'bring Shou to the dark side' thing, because that could become cool. They also might just want to watch him; there's a zillion more people on the list right now that aren't being attacked right away, and Shou might just be one of them.

I remember we talked about Cesar leaking him and there being consequences later, but my memory is crap and I don't remember much beyond that! You'll need to talk something like a kidnapping over with the mods, since all I'm orchestrating here are some vandalisms and possible roughing-ups. (If he gets kidnapped Cesar's gonna feel bad.)

Hello. I'm just wondering if there's a place for Fuyuka in all of this, considering she started offering assistance to Chuck, what with his connection to the mafia and the Blood Keys. If not, it's cool, I just wanted to see if it was a possibility.

If she's leaked her name or info anywhere (or if you want her to leak any of it), Cesar can leak her to the mafia and she could be on the list of possible victims! She could also just plain be in the wrong place at the wrong time, like being in Espresso Yourself when shit goes down!

If you don't want that, we can also take a different route where she could get in trouble by sheer association with Chuck, though we should probably talk that over with Chuck-mun before we actually think of anything specific. A three-way plurk could be good for that!

Bottom line: there is totally room for you here, if we can brainstorm enough. <3

I mentioned this briefly when talking about the potential of running afoul of Chuck at Thunder, but HAVING KEPT DERPING OUT OF THROWING ANYONE AT THIS, I'd still be down for something given the opportunity. Bearing in mind that most if not all of these would probably also require involvement from muns of characters that are heavily linked to them, and probably would require some discussion with them too~

Lily as a Precure has been pretty public and is prominent on the Network; Neil as one of the Gundam pilots got caught on TV after the Wise Snake and has made himself and his affiliation with the FBI known on the Network. Due to the FBI connection, I am not sure if that would encourage or deter setting anyone after him or his family. SARETHA I BELIEVE WE HAVE DISCUSSED A LITTLE BIT.

I actually still don't know a thing about Natalie, but I see Lily is over 18! I kind of want him to avoid her due to her youth anyway, but he's already tossed in Fred, Anthony, and Kara (due to desperation to make info-ends meet), so I may poke at his canon tendency to assume 'yeah they can probably handle this', if we want Lily to be leaked!

Neil: Yeah I think Cesar's going to avoid leaking him due to FBI stuff, even if he totally would have him noted down by now!

Yes hello, I'm actually very much interested in having Eriks (who's FBI) stick his nose into mafia business however possible (and eat any consequences, of course, because he's an idiot 8Db)

He's been talking to Chuck some and is pretty well convinced there are a few Numbereds on the inside, and he's reckless enough that he'd probably try investigating into that somehow. I've just been trying to work out a good opening for that, so I figured I'd drop a comment here.

Dude I would so be in for this. By the time the shit really hits the fan I want as many people looking into what's going on that Cesar has to constantly watch what he says, and can't every completely get away from it. Vash could be one of the detectives that clues on to the fact that the Numbereds on the inside aren't just being harmless anymore, when these attacks start?

OKAY everyone it's time for some conclusions. We have roughly four people looking to get vandalisms, and four for assaults. I'm expecting a lot of this to probably be NPC'd or done offscreen. For those of you that are doing that, feel free to cut loose with it now. For those of you that aren't, tag here and we can start coordinating with ourselves and the mods over getting you guys someone to NPC the mafia enforcers for you.

Here is what the mods say about the enforcers out to scare/do damage to people:

"They can be NPCed - the members will be mostly one purely human leader and one to three modified enforcers. Their victims will receive some kind of warning that this town belongs to Albero or "the family" or something along those lines."

Then, in a recent message:

"In my original message, I noted that groups consist of one regular human leader and one to three enforcers - I'll clarify here to say they've been modified with the abilities of a leopard. There won't be any Bloody Keys involved in these incidents, it will be entirely humans and modified humans. The leopard abilities will manifest in: speed, jumping and climbing abilities in combination with above-human strength. They'll be difficult opponents, armed with knives and in some situations sledgehammers and at least one gun per group, but not invincible. It'll depend on the character, but most should be able to get some hits in. These groups aren't looking to kill or mortally injure anyone, though if someone wants a broken arm or something that'd be okay.

"If anyone would like an NPC encounter, that's fine, I'll arrange for it! If they don't, that's fine, too."

I've got no problem with offscreening, but one thing I'd like to know for the after-stuff: would the mafia people start hitting harder if they know their target can self-heal?
