Plot Post for June 8th!
This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.
The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.
Events occurring currently:
• As of today - June 8th - Geoff Benwick is reaching out to those who spoke to him. He'll claim that he has confirmed where the car came from, and will offer to tell them more at a "meeting", if they'll come to one, aboard his spaceship on the evening of the eleventh. He'll let them know the location of and basic information regarding a warehouse/garage, and suggest that he - or they, if they'll be involved - infiltrate and investigate it. He'll let them take the lead on further discussion and decision as to whether or not they'd like to take over, or use a plan of their own up to them. He'll leave them on their own after passing on the starting information and base plan, and will only appear to a couple afterwards to check in and ask if he can offer them assistance. He will not mind if they say no, and he also won't object to anyone inviting comrades of theirs who he didn't speak to personally or "recording"/"livestreaming" anything that happens on the ship for the network.
• With the discovery of another body on the Las Vegas Strip, the rumblings of religion surrounding Las Vegas waterfront locations have been a-rumbling on, and on "Seedling" sites and forums, word has gone viral that they've snowballed into full-on sermons and "services". The rhetoric of participating groups centers around the concept of confronting and facing your true self in hopes of bringing yourself peace, prosperity, and fortune. Reincarnates feature as "Children of Shell", servants of the much-rumored lobster monster dwelling in the water, and there will be much discussion of Angeline Strauss as a "fake bird of prey", pointing toward Vegas performance as not "serving your true self".
They're increasingly running ads and press through some niche and some humoring sensationalist channels detailing their ideas. They're gaining an internet presence on social media and microblogging sites as well as radio spots, especially in the Las Vegas area.
Events occurring in the immediate future:
LOCKE CITY, NJ
• On the night of June 11th - after dark, at approximately 9:30 P.M. - an explosive, crackling bang! will erupt from the former Dead District. Anyone who might happen to be near may be able to trace its origin as the Thunder Corp. compound in the area; anyone on Geoff's ship at the time is all but bound to be close enough to be capable. Whatever's taking place there, it'll be to blame for an instantaneously-beginning series of blackouts, moving and sporadically surging on and off throughout the city. The area of the city nearest the Dead District will remain out of power until after midnight.
Whether or not reincarnates make connection to the compound at the time, meanwhile, it will be apparent that something is especially fishy. Any time a reincarnate enters or is caught in a blackout zone, he or she will be hit with that telltale hollow heartbeat feeling - the first time it occurs, it will be accompanied by a true Echo, and on subsequent occasions, it will feel like a dampened Echo sensation with nothing gained.
In addition, characters will experience other... "sensations" within blackout zones. These may include chills, paranoia, and a sudden wooziness - which may induce brief fainting in those with weaker constitutions - as well as sounds and smells with no logical nearby source (for example, a character may hear what sounds like one end of a distant conversation, or a voice sighing; scents could include perfume, sweat, smoke such as from cigarettes, etc.).
If a character waits about, or decides to go poking around for a source, the chills and wooziness will intensify and take on an additional emotional read (e.x. sorrow, peacefulness, or fear) as they go - until they find one, manifesting as a levitating "ball" of faint, pale light. There may be as many as two to three in each blackout zone, each of them shifting as if to achieve focus as they're observed, the clarity of their attached sensations sharpening or fading in the process. Watch one long enough and you may see a human torso or face taking shape - and find that you'll get a coherent, if fragmented, answer to any speech directed toward it in an also-human voice.
The presences appear to idly wander around reincarnates, shy out of sight in the vicinity of non-reincarnates, and will seem to gravitate towards and/or linger around those who seem to react to their presence most strongly. If your character's especially paranoid or easily-spooked, in other words, well, fear them not - they might find a kind volunteer guest or two watching the house through the blackouts with them.
Presences and associated sensations will fade whenever the lights come back on, but will continue to be fully-perceivable:
- By characters who can perceive ghosts and ghost-like entities.
- On camera.
- In mirrors.
- Over network connection. If you plan on live-streaming yourself playing Bloody Mary to the network and asking your fellows if they see what you see, be warned that, curiously, the entities will seem as if they're able to hear what's being said on the other end of the line...
• The morning after the blackouts begin (morning of June 12th, Thunder Corp. will have publically admitted fault for them, and the news will report that fact along with an official announcement that the compound in the Dead District will be submitted to inspection. Inspection will run the next workweek - June 16th through June 20th - and take place from 2:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. each day. During those three hours, the force field around the compound will be down. Authorized personnel only allowed to cross it, of course, but there are creative approaches to everything...
Temporary small-scale blackouts and associated presences will persist during the inspection period, and although inspection will end cleanly, they will continue indefinitely.
LAS VEGAS, NV
• Simultaneously with the initial blackout in Locke City (June 11th, starting at 6:30 P.M.), another pink, aurora-like light will flare through the sky over the Strip, with a bias and slight extension to the Strip's northwest, and under it, water in the Echo boundary will come alive - metaphorically, as far as anyone can tell! Water pressure will increase in faucets and fountains; non-flowing water connected to any source line will begin rippling and splashing, and so forth.
Meanwhile, reincarnates within viewing distance of the light may find themselves experiencing Echoes - even if they are not on the Strip proper. The next morning, anyone making trips in and out of the Strip ought to find that the Echo border has significantly expanded, with the boundaries now lying along S Decatur Blvd, Sunset Rd, and Route 95 - Las Vegas Expwy: for a visual representation see here.
The effects on the water will quiet at approximately 9:00 P.M., and the light will fade at that time - like the power problem in Locke City, however, it will not vanish entirely, and will brighten and fade in and out of obviousness for the immediate future.
• This incident will give the eccentrics around the waterfront areas another spark of "inspiration" toward increasing coherency and organization. Practitioners of the "Children of the Shell" rhetoric are likely to be seen carry mirrors and talk excitedly about the pink aurora being a "sign", and by the 14th, several high-ranking practitioners will begin wearing badges featuring this symbol; lower-ranking members of the group will be wearing this.
• The Vermini still patrolling around the Las Vegas Strip will be at least as "excited" by the light in the sky. They'll be swarming in greater numbers around watery and grassy locations, show greater aggression toward reincarnates (approaching the wrong fountain might just be a bit like shaking the wrong tree in an Animal Crossing session ((hopefully without the temporary disfiguration))).
This will lend to another big encounter on the 12th off of Lake Bellagio on the Las Vegas Strip, in which - what else? - a host of shellfish escaped from restaurant tanks will be infected and on the attack. This encounter is a wide-open free-for-all, but for all-visible-in-one-place ease of plotting among anyone interested in their character being there, please refer to this provided header for coordinating! After this incident, cultists will begin appearing around the parkade of the Aria Resort & Casino - as if in search of something.
Events potentially occurring in the immediate future:
• This week, a post about the garage/warehouse will go up for proper plotting and discussion, including an OOC vote re: accepting or rejecting Geoff's assistance and accepting, rejecting or revising his offered plan. During the week, there will be more public police presence in the Dead District, increasing over the weekend.
• Some cultists may buckle down and seem as if they're guarding waterfront areas and the Aria parkades during apparent meeting times for their fellows. This appears to be on a rotating basis. If you want to take a closer look, however, as long as you're a known "Child of the Shell", you may find yourself receiving an invitation to attend one of their services as a "special guest".
Potential Echo Opportunities
• Boarding Geoff Benwick's spaceship for the first time will grant one plot Echo.
• A Locke City character will experience one plot Echo the first time they enter or are caught in a blackout zone.
• Anyone who might brave crossing the Thunder Corp. compound barrier - or the imaginary line where it should be, from the 16th to the 20th - will also receive one Echo!
• Characters in Las Vegas will be eligible for one plot Echo from a direct look at the aurora after it first lights up on the 11th - even if they are not on the Strip and are rather elsewhere within the new Echo boundary.
• Regular Vermini encounters, as usual, grant one plot Echo on a first time to each character. In addition, characters attacked by or who come close to the infested shellfish near Lake Bellagio on the 12th will be eligible for one additional plot Echo, regardless of any Vermini-related Echoes they may have already received!
• A first encounter with this symbol as worn by head waterfront "cultists" will also grant one Echo per character.
Please direct questions regarding these plot points to the thread below and not the post in general.
The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
no subject
I don't know how it works for other people who can see ghosts but right now Jovan has only been able to see/feel...about the level that's being described here. Does this mean that ghost-seeing-powers-ness is getting an 'upgrade', so to speak, or is it still limited to exactly what is being described here?
Also: does seeing/feeling these things only apply within blackout zones? If so, are characters with ghost sensitivity and whatnot capable of perceiving them beyond just the zones?

WHAT YOU KNOW

Chuck has information about a warehouse (not the same one Geoff's talking about, although characters may not realize this at first) that was being used by the Keys/mafia. He also has some information about the cause of the car attack, separate from what Geoff will mention. He is 100% willing to share this information with anyone who asks, as per his post here.

He's also gonna be snooping at the Thunder corp compound after dark in wolf form, because nobody's gonna suspect a dog of anything, right? He may or may not be coming with the Lord of the Bugmen (most likely, both; he'll come once alone, then once with Hajime, I think). May do an open log for him there, if there's no mingle going to be set up.
Aaaand he's totally gonna be trying to talk to some ghosts, and likely remembering that "ghost" from way back when that wanted to save the Earth. Dunno what'll come of THAT :P
no subject
Blackouts! He's about night-blind. If he was caught out in one and the streetlights went out he would be pretty helpless. Would anyone like to be out there with him, find him, or just come fetch him if he made a network post? As it happens he can see ghosts, too.

Rakka will likely get caught in the blackouts while hanging around the Dians place. She'll try to investigate with everyone else, but if she comes into contact with the balls of light, she'll quite likely freak out. She wont go on the spaceship though.
no subject
I'm thinking, at this point, that his plot Echoes would mostly be enhancements of his existing abilities. Maybe give him the Venus summon. We'll see what seems like a good idea at the time.
no subject
In the week following afterwards, he will be going to check out the Thunder Corp compound with his intangibility powers. He's planning on taking Ravi and Brooke with him, and he intends to go along with Roxy!
He might also go and investigate the blackouts, both in the immediate future and for as long as they keep happening. I don't know where I'm going with that it just. It's a thing he'd do. would anyone else investigate those with him, either in the immediate or in the long-term?
Jovan I'd like to have in a blackout zone with someone else, so that he can be like FINALLY, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE SEEING IT HAHAHA I KNEW I WASN'T ODING ON MARIJUANA. If anyone is interested in having a college student who sees dead people hang out with them during a blackout, I'm totally game.
And then I swear to god I am finally getting his sorry ass to Vegas.
Chuck still has information about the mafia/Keys and their activity that he is willing to share (slightly more info here). He is also involved with the warehouse location Geoff is going to talk about and may be there when any attacks happen. (I say 'may' but I mean 'probably will', because what's the fun in him missing out on that?) Whenever that does happen, I'd love for any network people to recognize him there, since he's now shown his face on the network.

He is totally going to check out blackout zones, though. And is definitely the type to follow anything he thinks looks weird. Also: he will be able to perceive the presences anywhere because he has the ability to see ghosts. So they're probably going to hang around him a lot, since they'll be able to tell he notices them.
And yup, totally trying to sneak around Thundercorp grounds while the barrier is down. Trusting the aliens is one thing, waiting around for other people to do stuff is quite another. Time to get back into action. :)

Torin is a tiny, brave, and resourceful parrot, and he will therefore be slipping past that barrier, if anyone would care to recon with a tiny parrot who will probably be packing a tiny letter opener sword and possibly some spy gear he snagged off of a GI Joe.
Arthur is driving out to Vegas, because heck yes water-related stuff, and he will be up for anything and everything and trying to talk to all manner of sea life, even Vermini infested ones. He will probably try to make friends with the cultists.

On the 16th, he will go to Vegas. The dumb shenanigans will have a rather an unpleasant ending, though - Russel is going to publically try to kill him, and Emil will get upset enough to lose control on his monster powers and go a little berserk, wreck some shit and possibly tossing a cop before he snaps out of it and promptly gets arrested.
There’ll probably be some cultists in the audience.
yoko and steven: also, chuck's info leak plotting??
She's pretty well suited for spying and investigation, so I may be involving her in breaking into ThunderCorp. After that she'll either be going to Vegas with her dad (and Cain and two asshole robots?) in order to perfectly time the FBI setting their eyes on her, or submitting to FBI questioning after it's discovered the Aznables didn't tell the whole truth about her robot.
Steven will be going to the ship meeting, but avoiding Yoko, and having a detectives
pilemeeting by accident and arguing with Nat about Big Bad Beetleborgs or something bc he's an embarrassment. Also, probably sketching - the other Reincarnates and Geoff and the interior of the ship. He's not going to attend the Vermaxi garage incident bc he's still kind of a wreck after the Echo he got from the car monster, but will probably snoop around the outside of the ThunderCorp compound. After that the plans are more vague. He'll definitely be dealing with at least one or two orbs of light.no subject
I've been half-side eyeing the fact Neil also has some trained knowledge that could prove useful for infiltration, I just haven't decided if it's something he'd do at this point.

Also, what with Nick persisting with his making use of his inside-man position there, he is going to be keeping up with affairs related to the garage, but whatever he'd do or to whatever extent he might attempt to get involved is uncertain!
Bill is boarding the spaceship and getting put-off by the ghostly presences - and with reminders that there's still fishiness lurking around in Locke with a presence that can be felt, he's going to push on into getting involved with things even beyond the meeting. He'll also likely opt for the garage assault over the compound infiltration.
Steve is gaining his first ability from the blackouts, and it's a troublemaker's ability. Namely, he can toss fireballs - he'll probably show it off and look into its applications before getting bold and attempting to play chicken past the compound barrier, with or without someone to watch his back/make a challenge of it, but that's certainly undecided!

they should have a 2nd chance to bond

I'm also wondering if anyone with older characters who are planning to go to Vegas would be interested in Fuyuka "recruiting" them to report information back to her (she has reservations about using young people due to her past).
She will also be keen to try to get inside the compound, and if anyone is interested in working with her, I'd definitely be up for working together.
Amy will be stumbling through the blackout. In general, she's still quite injured from her encounter with the car, and be quite terrified as a result. Anyone up for interaction during this would be appreciated. :)
Jasmine is going to be heading to the meeting with two of her circle of friends, and afterwards be walking into the blackout zones with them. I'm up for her butting heads with people at the meeting especially. In all of these cases, various echo opportunities have the potential to have interesting effects on how things go. :)
EDIT - oh yes, on the matter of Fuyuka, I'm always eager to get her involved with any potential investigators, detectives (would-be-or otherwise), and members of law enforcement.

No clue yet if she's going to be participating in the warehouse shenanigans - that will depend largely on her own state after this immediate event, and those around her.
Saretha meanwhile is likely to be EXTRAORDINARILY OUTSPOKEN at the meeting. This is her first good chance to put her (considerable) money where her mouth is, and she's going to be trying to talk up and push for the reincarnates to be much more proactive to the threats facing them. As well, information she's currently discussing with Chuck may add an interesting wrinkle to the discussions on her end if Geoff's own info doesn't add up.
She likely will be kicking down the warehouse door, and utilizing whatever resources she has towards it.
She's also SUPER interested in Thunder, but I don't know if she's got the skills to look into it, since I doubt she can buy her way in.
Natalie meanwhile wants none of this nonsense - she won't be going to the spaceship. She will, however, get caught in the blackouts - and potentially get some echoes that are going to force her whole hand about this participation thing! I'd love for her to deal with someone DEALING WITH HER freaking out here.
Neil is a bit up in the air, as I'm still working on figuring his direction at the moment. Open to suggestions! (Thunder maybe? I'm not sure there yet as he doesn't want to compromise his situation.)

Eugen is a rather notable university bound mech. engineer so I'm thinking we can sneak in using the excuse that LCU send them to help (which he can convince his dean) with Neil as his partner? He'll need to wear a wig and contact lenses so he won't looks outright like a Numbered, but I think that can probably work to sneak them inside? Once in, Neil can take the lead since he's the one with experience and Eugen will "do his job" and investigate what he can from the engineering side?EDIT: Looks like we'll be using his FBI ID instead because it looks like Thunder will be cooperative that way.

She's leaving for Vegas on the 16th. It's my intention to try to get her to pursue the whole deal with the Children of the Shell, she's going to see a strong connection between a lot of their rhetoric and things she's learning from her Echoes. She knows it's probably a dead end, but it's a lead she wants to pursue anyway. She's very interested in talking to members of the police and the FBI, other investigators and detectives, etc. She knows her past self was a detective now, and she's hyped.
Cain will likely be attending the meeting too in another area. He's mostly going to sit and listen, chiming in at certain points and calling out idiocy when he sees it. Soon enough, he's headed for Vegas with the Aznables. He may also be very, very fascinated when Saretha speaks.
Rachel is still kinda up in the air. Assuming the echo request gets approved, she's getting her empathy back from the blackout, meaning her haunting is gonna be far from over. She'll be able to help the network try to deal with that whole mess.

He is still trying to deny certain things. For instance, he is drawing the line when it comes to the spaceship nonsense, but news about the blackouts in Locke will certainly get him freaking out. Moreover, aurora lights flaring through the sky will most likely give him heaven-related echoes, so things will only get more confusing for Mr. Keller from now on.

because he has LCU Mech Engineer credential that he can probably use with a company that deals with such large scale constructions.using his new FBI ID because Thunder will be more cooperative that way.If this gets a nod from mod, he will be willing to bring people in with him (limited to 3 person) as his partner/assistant provided that they are adults. He will not bring anyone who are not above 18 because they need to pass as LCU students/FBI. These people can either go with him to check out things on the engineering side of things or wander off to check out other things under the guise of checking for possible power leak blablabla excuses.
This is pretty up in the air at the moment, so if you have suggestion or want to join up, that'll be great!

Echo-wise, I'm hoping to get him another tentacle-related one, because it's been awhile! If anyone wants to see a ridiculous and slightly freaky display I am always willing to thread these shenanigans out!
