Plot Post for November 16th!

This format of plot post is designed for players to ask questions and find ways to influence the plot. Be bold and ask what you can or can't do; the worst that can happen is that we will say no. As plots in Save the Earth are not self resolving nor on a time limit, they can evolve in many ways. Although some potential outcomes are given, they are little more than suggestion and can be changed by character action. What role you take is up to you.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

State of current events:

• The Numbered's own Octavia Serket (drama8om8) and Alan Hunter (wirsinddiejager) began an unorthodox vigilante investigation of Thunder Corp.'s business in Tuning Towers with a break-in to and diversionary attack on the upper floors on the night of November 11th and have as the night of the 14th been rescued from detention by their fellows; a hunt is now announced as on for a pair of young vandals and the suspected terrorist organization - so the authorities say - that they represent.

Serket and Hunter's names and photographs are on the news as the perpetrators of the break-in who escaped holding in the raid on the police station on the 14th - and where the police are at work identifying and locating the rest on what leads they have (notably at the identified vandals' school of attendance Locke City High), one may notice that spells of civilian space-out - semi-regularly, for less than thirty-second periods - follow them.


• For better or for worse, current events are doing nothing to relieve the atmosphere of panic and paranoia in Locke City or do a thing for the city's evolving reputation - current events coverage of all forms is buzzing with talk of all the inexplicable and bizarre goings-on. Rumors and speculation circulate and bend through independent sources and features on exactly what is going on in the city; there is no shortage of conspiracy theories that can be dug up attempting to explain the connections between any and all currently-controversial local or federal parties on the so-called eco-terrorism scare. Fueled by the internet, new urban legends abound, from the peculiarly-isolated rash of lethal disease afflicting the city's pigeons to rumors of cockroach men in the sewers and a brilliant explosion in the sky over the city outskirts the night of November 1st.

More general news media has, meanwhile, in addition to the predictable, begun calling attention to a somewhat particular handful of missing persons cases - out of which the most publicized and likely outstanding by far are those of Mikasa Bito (erenplz), fifteen-year-old daughter of a Thunder Corp. employee and suspected innocent victim of hostility toward the company; and the reclusive local sculptor David Proud, whose work was previously so prominently displayed in the local museum.


• Access to the bombed areas is still restricted - however, as thorough examination and cleanup ends so Thunder Corp.'s rebuilding can begin, despite any effort to keep it entirely quiet to avoid causing further scene, some word has leaked out that the bombings have proven to be disturbingly odd, with reincarnates affiliated with the police able to catch wind of the factual details: whatever method used hasn't left a trace of evidence of conventional bombing, no radiation, chemical traces, and even minimal fire - with nothing brought to light pointing to some alternative method.


• The mission headed by Ravindra Savarna (healspec) in the city's undergroung did not result in accomplishment of its participants' declared goal: to find the producer of and stop that mysterious buzzing noise. Thus, its presence in reincarnates' heads goes on - at least for any of the newly-numbered it ought to be easy to tune out! Also remaining in place are the likelihood of witnessing groups of citizens falling under a "zone-out" effect and the amount and degree of presence by the police (both as described on October's plot post).

• As it looks as if their opposition is getting more restless - and, as it would seem, more reckless - the Enemy will be likewise getting bolder and more intent in bringing them under control.

Any player-run plots and events that would run the risk of drawing attention to player characters will run the risk of being "crashed" - participants and/or organizers of any, know that you may be contacted before or in the early stages of any such plot to approve/opt out and plot outcomes and developments accordingly.

Potential Echo Opportunities

Visits to Tuning Towers for the first time after October 23rd will continue to grant Echoes indefinitely - for anyone willing to get that close to the police! Unique incidents, investigations, and other current and forthcoming events are also liable to yield Echoes for reincarnates involved.

Aria did okay in the past month (and got involved in the jailbreak and the Ravi exploration thing) and will pretty much be continuing to sign on for any exploratory/information gathering things and/or proactive stuff that has a plan she can get behind. She talks to tons of people about tons of things and makes an effort to be in the loop, so she's...always around if people need her. :|a I am pretty much up for whatever with her as always! On the other hand she may sort of be dealing with the memory of her own death (...one of them) so. Aria's the easiest to find of any of my three, because she often goes on runs/walks and/or does outdoorsy things that take her all over Locke, so.

Sophie also did the exploration thing, but did no really do any of the other stuff as such. She got back her ability to tell when people are lying to her or being legit (rather, she can tell when people's breathing and heart rates speed up or whatnot), so that's...obviously fun. She's willing to sign up for anything that her unique mode of sight might be useful for still, tbh, and also may be goofing around a little because she can't be 100% serious all of the time (or most of the time). She may eventually get back actual bending stuff. Generally Sophie can be found in the middle school or hanging out at the park or somewhere else kids her age actually go to hang out. So.

Sierra has actual people she knows on the Network now (and she knows she knows them!!) so she's actually more willing to...do things. She's probably still not going to get involved with anything major off the bat, or until she echoes back more things that would make her more inclined to be involved, but she does admittedly sort of want to make sure people are safe, even if she doesn't think attacking anything sounds smart. She can be found at Locke U or at the vet where she works or honestly wherever.

The Dians were planning on having a bigger presence in fighting evil... but then Miria's mother showed up for the holidays.

They'll generally be pretty nervous about anything getting back to/overheard by Mrs. Harvent at any time. Any visits to the shop will likely be slightly strained or filled with venting if she's out of the house.

Otherwise, their relationship has been strained by the lack of echo communication between them as of late. More echoes will likely worsen thingss in the future. They're willing to talk to anyone about it who might want to listen.

I'm really hoping for some more CR for these two, as it might help them get out of the house more.

I literally have nothing for Killian. He's too busy and too used to being flat ass broke to really get too involved in plot things. He's also got eighteen years of that "I can't do X because if I do X it'll draw attention, which would be bad because it'll make things harder on my lower class family" mindset he's gotta get through before he can really willingly get involved in the problematic stuff.

His mother also needs to be out of the picture, but I am making plans for that. They may involve murder. IDK just yet.

But if anyone wants to start trying to get him more involved, we can talk! Otherwise, he's working at Chloe's stables, bumming around, and visiting the clinic.

Oho, Killian is holing up in Shou's place, which means that Shou will automatically try dragging him out to do things. One of such things include going out and hanging out with a couple other numbered people, parties and - yes - dating. There is no doubt in my mind that he will focus on Killian as needing some more friends and drag him along for the ride.

In addition to his continued (handwaved) experiments with Echos - though by now he's isolated the Tuning Towers as a major point, and there's only so much more he can do - Elian is going to try his hand at a bit of journalism. Publishing essays and the like online in various communities, some directly related to his field of science re; other dimensions, and some relating to the more visible events happening in Locke City. Most of these will be geared as shots in the dark, trying to see if he can even get one person not of the Network to understand that there is something more than meets the eye going on. HEY, NPCS. SHIT IS GOING DOWN AND YOU ARE NOT KNOWING THE WHOLE STORY. Or maybe you're just not asking the right questions.

I need a computer-savvy person (because lord knows he's not, and he's not quite naive enough to go in to this slapping his name on everything) to work with him in ways to publish anonymously; I'd prefer someone he's already met, even briefly, but I'm totally willing to new CR!

I'm thinking that he's going to be traced, eventually, and get in to a certain degree of trouble. 8) Especially as, with his new house, he is going to be ordering some more specialized scientific equipment to do some more experiments, because someone is going to start tapping every goddamn connection he's made in 90+ years to make the most of what he expects will be his last few, at this rate.

Okay so I got a mild case of RP burnout over the last few days, right as all the jailbreak/tuning towers shit went down, so I feel like I missed some shit. This post is perfectly timed for helping me get back on my feet.

Marisa, now that she has Master Spark under her belt, is free to start learning some other useful powers. Specifically I want to teach her how to make magic mushroom grenades, how to fly, maybe another spellcard or two, all kinds of useful stuff. She's going to turn from a single blunt instrument to a swiss army blunt instrument, with a special little blunt instrument for every scenario. And a corkscrew/bottle opener. She's nosy and energetic enough to get involved in anything and everything.

Angela now has a supercharged sense of smell, and will be useful for tracking people or things. However that doesn't help her internal sense of conflict between the very strong evidence she's seen that there's something rotten at the heart of the police force and her sense of loyalty to her fellow officers. What I need are good reasons to get her sympathetic to the Numbers Club. Especially after that stunt they just pulled to bust Tavia and Alan out of jail.

ALSO I want to get her shot five times in the chest, as that would be one HELL of a canon recurrance, and would liked echo back her regenerative powers along with her vulnerability to silver. So if anyone has a particularly strong grudge against the LCPD, and wants to take it out on another PC without actually killing them, this would be a good opportunity to do so!

Sam I have no big plans for. He's got the D&D campaign he's throwing together, and he'd be useful in any situation that has lots of panicking people as those let him recharge his powers.

Blaine has no grudge against the LCPD, but would shoot an officer without hesitation should she see no other option to fend off being arrested or have investigations against her happening {not with what is going down right now}, and she does have quite a few connections to the shady parts of town and to outright criminal elements and might get involved into something again.

If we could work out a situation where Blaine would be trapped and her only option to escape without being caught or even identified being shooting Angela, I think having her shoot Angela multiple times is no issue - she'd want to be thorough because doing that only half would mean more trouble than any other option. Can't have her see and tell.

Britany Ruff (Rita Mordio) is going to try her hand at some hacking. She's got a post up talking about a loophole she's figured out that might make doing so a lot harder to notice.

Problem is, she needs some targets. Someone else could provide her with ideas there, possibly? Given her post, it'd be pretty logical to suggest some spots.

As for targets, Miranda is so not sure about the skills of anyone she talks to and give her a few things to do to make sure she's competent.

I'd like to get Akito/Ahito in on hunting down the maker of those snake statues, but other than that I have no real plans. He's trying to keep his head down, but at the same time he's getting restless, especially with all the police activity around his school. If he can, he might try to get close to the Tower and drag along some of his normal friends to cover him - all that activity must mean there's something interesting, right? It couldn't hurt just to check, could it?

Hasn't really gotten anything new in terms of powers since I'm still looking for an ample opportunity to get his healing sight and knowledge of how it works all in one go (though I may just split it up at this point for funsies). He's a pretty good mark with a handgun, though!

Also, she's not in the game yet but I'm planning to bring in Miiko Suzuhara from Animal Academy: Hakobune Hakusho. She's a cat who will be taken in by Elly, and that's... pretty sufficient to explain her personality, too. Extremely self-centered and oblivious to a lot of normal human concepts. If anyone wants to plot stuff with her, that'd also be super cool \o/

Octavia will be coping in her usual way - namely pretending everything is fine, she wasn't/isn't scared and never will be, and completely overplaying how cheerful and happy and normal she is. WOW GUYS IT SURE IS GREAT TO BE A FUGITIVE. EXCITING. NEW. SO COOL. FAME IS EVERYTHING SHE EVER IMAGINED.

I'll probably be posting with her later today to follow up on the jailbreak and pppooooosssibly have her float the idea of putting together some kind of public statement to try and refute the enemy's claims of reincarnates being terrorists. Maybe. Because if her face is going to be plastered everywhere, she'd rather it be as a member of a ~*cool vigilante group*~ than an idiot vandal. 8V

Ellie found that her cagey secretive asshole nature became problematic when Mac - the only person who knows she's employed by Thunder Corp - ended up being one of the people spearheading Alan's rescue. Which stopped her being even tangentially involved. Oops. With things ramping up, she might have to come out about that to her closest CR. She probably won't quit, though. Probably.

She's also continuing to obsessively document anything even slightly related to giants in peoples' echoes. For reasons.

Walter was involved in that fun little jailbreak! And then when he got home he was promptly grounded because his parents are starting to get incredibly frustrated with their son's behavior. He stays out late, doesn't talk much about where he's going and doesn't answer his phone. They want to meet his new friends and subject them to the parental test of approval but uhhhhhh two of them are fugitives now so that's tough.

So he's going to be chilling out for the rest of the month, most likely. Though he would like to go out and help with stuff and things, so if the need arises, he'll be kind of tempted. Long-term wise I have some wibbly wobbly plans for him. I need more plot-based echoes to give him more demonic chunks and I'd like to get him Agro back in the near future. He learned that he was not proficient with a sword recently but he can lift it and swing it so that's... somewhat useful.

Blaine/Ymir Just received her first memory echo, which she will spectacularly misinterpret. As in, she will think that it whomever she shares a past with, it definitely aren't the 3DGM/giants memory people. She also received her first obvious physical echo, which will make her extremely worried about getting hurt - normal people bleed.

I'm hoping to do something with her fear of heights, but have no idea what - otherwise she will keep trolling people and as she starts to understand the network shift her attention to sneakily try to figure out if there are any people from her past around. Plot wise she is trying to be involved enough to be able to demand help should she suddenly turn into a freak and have to leave her job and maybe hide from the police in case she has to go missing from her supervised housing, but at the same time she's trying to keep as a low a profile as possible.

The Luteces will be continuing their vague research. With pretty much comes down to snooping on every open network posts and trying to piece together exactly what's going on around the city. They'll likely hang out the bombed area on the off chance that they'll see something worth noting.

Derek has received his ability to howl, which sounds strange, from the recent exploration mission. Which means that at some point he's going to test it out. Here's where the fun begins. The howl itself can be heard over a long distance, the range varies on the show between the span of a few blocks and across the town as a whole. And to top things off, because being loud in general wasn't dangerous enough, it doesn't sound like a typical animal sound. At least, not like a wolf howling.
What is this leading to? Well, for people to hear it of course. The difference is it won't be broadcast across the network. It'll straight up be one night the sound will just be heard across the city.

Brooke has been involved with Ravindra's expedition, Tavia and Alan's jailbreak, and Rachel's party, and honestly she's starting to get tired of stagnation. She wants answers, and more than that, she wants the heat off her friends. It's possible, though, that she's starting to pop up on police radar.

Her skills as she knows them lie in information gathering, but she also has the ability to move the earth—currently, not very much, but more echoes will improve that. She's only fair to middlin' in a fight, but would probably excel in hand-to-hand combat because of her rock arm and the extra force it carries.

She's in a difficult position where she wants to find answers but has no real knowledge of how to actually find them. She also has to balance her work schedule which, even though her boss is fairly lenient, does limit her ability to participate in things. She's serious about starting up her own supernatural care free clinic or what have you—mostly the undead, because that's what she knows about—and may need to discuss it with Ravi or Mordin or Aaron or whoever if she wants it to get much further.

Luci's going to start kicking her info gathering thing into high gear if you want to have Brooke get involved in that. She'd definitely at least tell her about it, if not directly ask her to help her find people (since she's been around longer).

Also, let me know if the clinic does get moving, I may throw Elly at it. She's a medical student, so while she's no expert, she's an extra pair of hands that could possibly help. I've also been itching to have her start taking on odd cases, so this would be pretty much perfect.

Michelle isn't very comfortable with this Numbered stuff yet, and she hasn't echoed back anything actually useful, so she's not going to be leading anything anytime soon! However, she has decided that she's stuck with the numbers club anyway so she might as well learn what she can about the situation.

I don't have any plans for her at current. She was just on mission control for Ravi's exploration, and further exploratory/information-gathering plans might draw her interest, but at the moment she's not really willing to stick her neck out. Basically right now the main thing she needs is more CR to help motivate her to get involved.


Echo plans: I'm thinking about how soon is too soon to give her the portal gun. When she does get it (most likely via plot echo), it might be a depowered version at first anyway. Hmm...

Edit: Oh right, I might have her leave the city for a couple days over Thanksgiving. Her aunt and uncle would be a little suspicious if she didn't come visit (and more importantly, I'll be working retail that weekend so I'm probably going to be too wiped to tag!)

Roxy is probably gonna lay low unless I manage to echo back one of her guns, in which case I might have her start the shit instead, because if Roxy killed someone she'd panic right along with the whole city and that'd be interesting.

Jake's been more or less freaked out by this whole conspiracy group/secret organizations/people getting powers??? thing, and so has been laying low and mostly observing the network.

He's interested in finding out more on what's going on, but doesn't really know how to go about it and sure as hell isn't interested in doing anything that'll get him killed or arrested. All this vigilante stuff other people are doing (LOOKING AT YOU OCTAVIA/ALAN) is making him too nervous to participate very openly with others on the network, too. He doesn't want to get roped into some terrorist cult here. He just wants to know wtf is going on.

So he's likely to participate in info gathering things that either involve everyone doing their own thing alone and reporting back with findings or possibly doing a group thing with people IF the people seem like they're sane/safe and if the project is solely information-gathering. He is not in a proactive role right now, though, so he's not setting anything up and will just be a follower for now.

ALSO. He doesn't feel like any of this really involves him. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. I'd like him to get some more CR or else get involved in something so he can feel like he has some kind of personal stake in this mess. That way he'll start wanting to get more actively involved. Once he starts getting more involved, I'd like to start giving him some Echos to slowly get his Super Strength back. (Or his Super take-damage-like-a-brick-wall. Either one.)

This seems to be as good of a place as any for this, SO. For the past month and a half (sob), John has been looking for a new apartment to move into, and as of probably about a week/week and a half ago, he's moved into said new location with Anthony. (It's in the same building/complex as Nick is in, in case anyone else is in the area.) While this has kept him pretty busy, John did continue following the network, even if his active participation in it dropped.

At the start of November, however, John managed to echo back his vampirism while packing up his old apartment. (Long story short, he echoed back a vampire porn dvd a while back and just got around to watching it--on accident, no less--which in turn gave him back his fangs and bloodlust.) Following that development, he proceeded to shut himself off from the network, feeling a fair amount of animosity toward it. (Because knowing that you're becoming a vampire is one thing, but actually being one all of a sudden is about ten times worse.)

Those who know him in person will likely pick up on a few things. First and foremost, John looks tired and just a touch sickly. He seems more stressed out and comes across as more irritable, but he'll still put up a cheerful front as much as he possibly can; at the moment, John's been brushing off the concerns of most people regarding why he's looking/acting differently. There's also the slightest tremble to his hands--think of someone who is going into withdrawal.

Also, while he hasn't exactly advertised the fact that he's a recovering alcoholic, John is... struggling a little bit with that as well at the moment, what with being rather stressed out about his newly acquired vampirism. He tends to look a little too long at the liquor aisle in the supermarket, and he's adamantly against going to bars now. John is still clean at the moment, but he's having a fair amount of trouble. :|b

OKAY, I think I... covered most of the background handwaving stuff I wanted to go over. If anyone wants to go into more detail about behind the scenes stuff during my (hideously long) hiatus, just let me know. Otherwise? Hit me up for new stuff, too. :Db

As mentioned before, Alex is out of town with family and will be returning December 1st. He's going to suffer from an immediate blood withdrawal since he, uh, was not drinking any blood outside of the city and the ordeal is going to give him back his (human) bloodlust, which is going to shake him up something fierce.

Would you like to do anything with John and Alex regarding that?
